A nice opportunity to share your love of handmades with a newbie?

In case it isn't clear enough, my question is to more than just JVV.

I know he still sticks his head in from time to time, but I'd be glad to hear from any of you guys who love the handmades.

Those look like they ought to have special names. Do they? Or are they just cool versions of "ordinary" handmades?

Thanks a million!

a name! latticinio!

It shouldn't be so hard for me to figure things out about handmade mibs, esp. with one being named after a geometrical construct (i.e., lattice), but it has been.

I'll file this thread under "latticinio" since it has at least one, and then maybe I'll pull it back up when I'm finally ready to study it carefully.

Some of these I've only seen in books but I'll take a crack at classifying them since there are more than just latticinios here. Feel free to correct me JVV or others.

1. Naked Single Ribbon Core

2. 2 Stage Single Ribbon Core

3. Ribbon Core Latticinio

4. Coreless Swirl or one Crazy Naked Double Ribbon Core

5. 2 Stage Ribbon Core Latticinio or a 2 Stage Double Ribbon Core

6. Green Base Glass Latticinio Swirl

7. Blue Base Glass Latticinio Swirl

8. Never seen anything like this, maybe JVV has a name for it?

9. Ridged Solid Core Swirl

I dabble in the handmades but I am nowhere near the pro JVV and others are.

Uhhhhh, I don't think I'd really call any of those latticinios... At least, not in the usual term....

The first is a naked ribbon.... After that, it gets kinda goofy, cuz they are all so "not typical."

I'm not gonna pull out any books and see what "authors" call 'em... But, I'd go with....

The second kinda looks like a tri-level with a ribbon core?? (caged)

The third is a double latticinio ribbon?

The fourth looks like it is actually just a 4 banded coreless (maybe colored glass?? The ones I have are....) But, the bands are so intricate and nice, it comes off much better than that.... I have a couple of these and they really don't seem to fit into the only category that names them....

HEY!!! WHOA!!!!! Never mind about that Latticinio thing!!! I was only seein' 4 pictures!!

Usually, when the post is wide like that, on my monitor, all of the posts go wide.... Duh.......

9........ I gotta go back and look again.....

9. Lobed solid core

Brad, I'll take a shot at #8.

White Latticino

Green base

naked, except where lattice rises to the surface and resubmerges, so submarine.

Lattice resembles German multicolered lattices...the lattice strands are not intricately wound, but instead meander through the core.

I've bought handmades from several German companies. Lucca Glass is always on the 'Bay. Easy to deal with: they speak good English. Others are nearly impossible, particularly when you bid in dollars, pay in Euro's (PayPal has a feature to do daily currency conversions from funded accounts; conversion is at noon, EST).

Prices appear lower than US, but beware muderous shipping, language issues, and weak dollar, which boosts price. Inventories though are unbelieveable, as can be quality.

I'm trying to pay for a 3 colored lattice, white, yellow and red; my German is non-existant. This simple process is going on a week. Can't wait to get it...but email addresses are odd. So i've had to cancel one payment, and I'll try again to another email address recieved this morning. Hey, it might even be real.

The stuff I've got know I'm very happy w/ from Germany.

A quick funny. Saw a description on the 'Bay the other day describing a german handmade c.1940. Think the Germans were making many toys that year? Colin

Just a guess size: 9/16ths

Know that I'm the new guy here and dont want to overstep my bounds here.

Ill take a stab at #8 also:

How about Green Base Glass Asymmetrical Swirl

I have seen and purchased others similar to this, using this description.

The rest:

#10 Tornado Solid Core with caged outer lines

#11 Yellow Latt Core with 4/c caged outer lines

#12 3 Layer Latt Core with transparent colored outer lines

#13 Double Ribbon Core

All examples are extraordinary. Thanks for sharing JVV.
