  3. OK. So here are 5 images, I separated them into numbered rows, and batches. I pulled out damaged ones, though I just noticed one in the 5th image at the bottom. Thank you for any assistance in identifying these. My kiddo is interested in making a collection or building on my grandfathers collection, but I'll likely sell any that are truly special. I love the green on in the 2nd image in row 4, 3rd from the left.

  14. Help Please

hello I have had some of these marbles for quite some time and would love some help identifying them.
  15. Bought a small cabinet at the antique swap meet the other day. Then I found a store that sells nothing but boxes, I bought small boxes 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 x 2" tall to display my marbles in. I am always looking for marble displays. These marbles are up to 2-7/16"
  16. How about all solid single coloured marbles and whether any of them have value. In the first pile I have what appears to be some solid opaques, some coloured transparent solids, some moons, and at least ONE pink non glass marble. I heard moonies can be collectible somewhat. Are all solid colours worthless or are their some rare colours in which to watch out for? Not sure what the one non glass marble is made of but I can provide single better closeup(s) of anything could stand a shot to be decent just ask and I will reload a pic of the specific marble. The next pile has to have at least a couple that are somewhat valuable as I really like a few of them and they definitely look alot more detailed and better. Theres the orange on cream striped one, the dark brown striped ones which look kinda cool, similar ones to my previous post with white base but much more and solid defined colour included splashes of oxblood on a couple as well as the one in the middle and far left with solid red and blue meeting together at the line and also has a multi coloured rainbowish look on the underside (hidden in the picture). It's definitely one of my faves. The white marble with large orange and green patches looks decent too. The third pile doesnt need much explanation as they are all relatively similar and im sure from the same manufacturer but they do look better then the marbles in my first few posts so Im hoping these ones are at least somewhat collectible. Thanks again for all your guys help. Im hoping to collect lots of marbles as I am just a beginner and will have no problem rewarding those that help me along in my collecting journey should I choose to stumble upon a real nice one.
  17. Slightly confused on the placement of cat's eye marbles. Im aware most are worthless and not really collectible but have read some places that the three coloured or triple coloured ones can be alright. Here in the pictures i have the big bowl of what I assume to be cheap new 3 coloured cat's eye marbles but the other ones although only having one colour appear to be much nicer made, more rare, and would have more value. Please let me know if they are both crap or if there is anything there worthing hanging on to. I am not particularly doing this to resell or make money on don't get the wrong impression but I just want to know what to look for when collecting and making good decisions rather then spend money on worthless marbles. Thanks more pics to come.

  19. More Boring Ceramic Marbles ;-)

Hello, A very interesting topic about the ceramic marbles. I have some very interesting old marbles. These are hand made salt glazed stoneware marbles. They look some how similar as the Bennington marbles, but they are much older and much rarer. These marbles are from the period 1580-1700. They were made in Germany, in a small town called Frechen, and in Belgium in a small town called Raeren. These are also the places where the well-known Bellarmine bottles were produced, with the same kind of glazing. The book Colonial period and early 19th century children’s toy marbles by Richard Gartley and Jeff Carskadden, gives detailed information about these type of marbles. Here is aquote from the book:Brown salt glazed stoneware marbles seen in European collections range in size from about ½ inch to 2-1/2 inches in diameter, although they seem to cluster in two general size categories: 9/16 to 5/8 of an inch and 1-1/8 to 1-1/4 inches. Those of the largest diameters (over 2 inches)are the rarest; only two examples are known. Robert Block writes in his book “Marbles identification and price guide on page 68,stoneware marbles over 2 inch, none known to exist. I know that there are several more over two inch, but this size is still very rare! There are 4types of salt glazed stoneware marbles described in the book The book Colonial period and early 19th century children’s toy marbles: Brown salt glazed stoneware marbles, Gray salt glazed stoneware marbles, Raeren brown stoneware marbles, and Frechen tigerware marbles. Brown is the most common color, tigerware, and yellow are the rarest. I loo forwar to you reactions. I have placed more photos in my album. Jeroen
  20. Here are a few Marble King offerings on Ebay this week. Thanks for caring. http://www.ebay.com/...&_sop=12&_rdc=1
  21. To the current upswing in the appearance of marbles in jar listings on eBay, I have penned the following as, what I hope, sends a clear message to sellers of my views on this issue. I would urge you to copy and paste the following as a question for sellers whenever one comes across similar listings or at least compose something in your own words with the same end, in mind: Question for seller: "Why are you displaying marbles in a jar? If I were interested in old jars wouldn't I be browsing the eBay old jar listings? That said, I'd only be interested in alternate views of your marbles whereby the jar only acts as an obstruction so I can only assume that there are details regarding the marbles which you prefer to obscure. So I guess I've answered my own question, haven't I? I expect that this listing will be added to the list of all of the other, unsold marbles-in-jars lots which I recently happened to peruse in the completed listings view of your other offerings. Thanks."
