Steph Posted December 14, 2009 Author Report Share Posted December 14, 2009 Thanks Steve! Jaspers are one of my favorites among the seldom seen earthenware. I had a great one - white lines on blue. Alas, it's also one of the first mibs I ever sold, because it was one of the first I could identify! (lol) I have a large marble from the American Marble & Toy Mfg. Co. I also picked up a very inexpensive digital camera. Might be a good time to see if I can get it to work on mibs. Of course BJ already has some great pix of those. I'm NOT up on what type of stone any of these are, so I'll leave that to the ologists in that arena. What I DO know is that there were generally 2 methods in "producing" stone sphere's, by machine and by hand. I believe it was Galen who posted a picture of the hand-grinding process,(men laying on there stomachs using a large grinding stone to shape the stones into orb shapes),I have a few really nice examples here amongst the below pics. But, the green is so "leaf-like" it looks like it was fresh yesterday!! LOL I'd have to dig it out to see if it's faceted... I believe it is. A Penn. They are all faceted, even in the case, top row right side, green peewee moss was bought in 1939 at the Crescent store in Ogden, Utah by Que Eugene Shupe, for Ronald Que Shupe who then gave it to Scott Que Shupe in 1994! A pic of some more non-glass marbles, I think a couple are actually ground stone rather than clay/ceramic, maybe a couple ivory or bone too. Plus a neat note that came with some agates as I got them.
