It's a resin. These have been around for about 20 years. They are more predominant in England than here. There's at least 5 different designs. I'm sure there's a thread on here that discussed these before, perhaps one of the more intrepid marbleconnection-nauts can scare it up

I figured it has to be some sort of newer item (I have read up on scrimshaw before) as most pieces are repros. Still a very cool addition to my solitaire boards. Had a few green fancy benningtons with it, too, which I don't have too many of

Yep looks like a resin one from here. I see dozens of them here. True test is to heat a pin head to red and then poke into one of the holes. If resin it will smell like burnt plastic, if ivory it will smell like burnt hair or fingernails. They also do these in some sort of stone like slate or something?
