When Boys Played Marbles, Girls Played...

Recommended Posts

I did a presentation a year or so ago for the Concordia KS historical society. I went through the newspaper archives from the 50s and 60s, wrote up a story on the Marbles and Jacks tournaments. I compiled a list of participants from the newspaper which the Historical Society used to contact as many as they could to invite to a home coming weekend. The Historical Society build tables for playing Marbles and Jacks since these folks are in their 60s and 70s. About 60 of them showed up, some rode an a special float in the parade then we went to the historical society to play marbles and jacks. They refused to use the tables and insisted on getting down on the floor to play. Quite a sight and the stories were great. The city marble champions were given VFW marble medals. The jacks champions were give little necklaces.
