How do i positively identify Oxblood?

I have been having a really hard time positively identifying Oxblood.
Are there ways for me to know right away? Any sure fire tells?
I appreciate any and all help.

Handle it at shows.  Nothing beats in-person experience - especially seeing the varied types.  Photos on the Internet can't compare.

Very true.  We all start somewhere, and a lot of people here myself included had the same question at some point.  I seem to recall an oxblood specific thread on this board.  Someone might beat me to it but there were some pretty good examples for reference at the time.

Here is a AKRO car ashtray in oxblood.

Wow! Great find, schmoozer! I’ve never seen one of those.

Joe k, once you see even a few oxblood examples in hand you’ll know it forever, it’s usually pronounced and very distinctive. There are always exceptions, but that’s what makes horse racing. And marble collecting, for that matter.

I Also found an example in green/white last month. AKRO examples have 10 panels. There are 8 panel, and round examples by others, usually Houze.

Buy examples of the various Akro oxbloods.  Hold them and look at them.  You will never mistake oxblood again.
