  1. Alley 'Bacon' Marble I believe. (Just saw them in Stephen Bahr video with Ron Shepard.)
  2. I'm no expert, but I've been collecting marbles for a while and seen a decent amount of them- and this doesn't look like a contemporary torch made marble. Like Fire mentioned, there is too much wear and the glass colors and quality don't scream torch made to me. But I'm sure over the years nearly every type of marble has been made with a torch. The way the colors stretch and pull together at the one pole could suggest a punty was there as it stands out from the rest of the pattern in the marble, but I don't know.
  3. Thanks to everyone who is spending time to help ID this marble- I appreciate it! The Italian angle is an interesting one. This comes form a recent purchase of mine and I'm confident in saying it is at least 40 years old, as the collection I bought it out of has a simple and clear history from a trusted source. A related question, when people say a marble is "contemporary" what time period does that word mean for those in the marble community?
  4. Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you see the same thing in your marbles. I'm glad I ended up with so many that react- I didn't check for that when I bought them.
  5. No pics, as I'm sure most people know these marbles. My question is, why is there a variance in how much they react to UV light? Does it tell you something about when they were made? I have 6 of them, and to the naked eye the base glass looks basically identical. However, under UV 2 of them glow intensely, 3 lightly glow, and one does not glow at all. My 2 Milky Oxblood's don't glow either, while my 2 Lemonade Ox glow intensely and my Egg Yolk Ox doesn't glow at all. Just curious as to why and what it means. Thanks!
  6. Any idea when it was made?
  7. Any idea who made this? It's a completely uniform 61/64 inch. The base glass is a dark transparent green as I tried to capture with the back lit pic. The only UV is the yellow frit that glows orange. It does appear to have a bit of a gathered top as seen in the first pic, but it is definitely machine made as far as I can tell.
  8. Thanks for the feedback. It feels and looks more modern to me too, but I am confident it is at least 40 years old. (Which is still modern, but maybe not contemporary and part of the more recent boom of new handmade torch marbles.) I find no signature on it. When were the Bulgarian torch marbles made?
  9. Here is another from my recent purchase. It was with a bunch of other German handmade latticinios, ribbons, onionskins, etc. The group hadn't seen the light of day for at least 40 years. It comes in at just over 1.25 inches with a single faceted pontil (if I have my pontil id correct). It seems to be in the cloud category, but is unlike any others I have seen. The red really looks to be oxblood in hand. Definitely a cool marble and in very great shape.
  10. Hello, Is your book on West Virginia Swirls still available for purchase?

  11. Hello, Is your book still available for purchase? I don't want to send you money in advance if it isn't. Thanks!
  12. I recently bought 200 marbles out of a collection of 5000ish. This and the other Greiner marble I posted pics of were among those. I recognized a lot of what I bought, but not everything. I took these due to the fact they were clearly antique handmades of some kind. Glad I did!
  13. I'm certainly happy to have added one to my collection!
  14. Thanks for the info. It does have an egg yolk quality to the color. It is just under 3/4" (.73)
