But ! What is up with the “marble” in the top left corner in your second pic. It looks like a weird grape. 🔥

I have no idea! Haha, you are definitely right about it looking like a weird grape! And it also does has a rose color to it. With them being on the ground outside a factory (supposedly) I'm not sure if it was a reject or something. Here's some more pictures with white background. The pinkish hue looks better in person than in the pictures

  2. In my quest to learn more about my collection I think I have one that is handmade. From what I've been learning it looks like it has a pontil.

Are there any other things to learn about one like this? Is it hard to figure out the origin of a handmade marble?

  3. I'm loving learning more about marbles being here! The seams post pinned has been really helpful as I'm starting to learn, though I can tell I have a long way to go.

I have a handful of marbles that were given to be by a friend who told me they were old, but I'm not sure how old. If anyone wants more photos for any of them, let me know, but I'm mostly asking about this small one that looks rather odd. It's really different from anything I've seen before and I don't think it's glass.

This might be a dumb question, but does anyone know if it's even a marble? Thank you in advance for any help anyone can provide!

  4. I have several here, but if anyone thinks there's something interesting I can post more specific photos. These are all from a jar I bought in WV that I was told were collected from the ground outside an old marble factory. Probably rejected, many are deformed unfortunately.

The first 3 photos are all the marbles, the 4th are a few ones that I thought were interesting from the bunch, and the last two are those same ones with a UV light on them (I don't know if that helps at all)

"Welcome to Marble Connection Edie"  :wave2:

Looks like almost all newer, I see lots of Vacor ?? Alot of marbles to look @ though, we'll see what others have to say !!

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, most are likely new. I've been collecting for a while, but nothing serious and I'm not terribly old and when I was little I would ask for marbles for Christmas and birthdays, lol. Sometimes we'd stop by a gas station and I was allowed to get a small bag of marbles. I looked up vacor and they look like the sets I used to get for Christmas sometimes, so you're probably right!

Welcome to the Marble Connection Edie. A green glow under UV doesn't necessarily mean it is "uranium glass". There can be a variety of compounds in glass that react with UV. The front and middle marbles that you are showing appear to be newer Marble King Rainbows. They  tend to have two polar patches of the same color. It's a little harder to tell from these photos but the back marble may also be a newer Marble King.

Thank you for the welcome and the information! There's certainly a lot for me to learn! I've only recently discovered that some look cool under a UV light, so I'm definitely inexperienced! The 3rd to last and 2nd to last pictures are the marble in the back from the first few pictures, so it's probably as you say.

  7. Hello! I just joined and am very excited to be here! I pulled out a couple specific marbles to share here. These ones glow green so I think that means they are uranium glass marbles? I was trying to look them up online when I found this site!

  8. Hello! I just found this site while looking up some of the marbles I have.

I've been collecting marbles basically my whole life, though it has slowed down in recent years.

When I was younger I definitely just collected whatever I could find, so I'm sure a bunch of my marbles are genetic, but I do have a few unique ones!

I would say most of my collection is either store bought/generic or from small stores in Vermont. I do have some from West Virginia, Maryland, and a couple from Japan.

It's really cool to see the different ones being posted here! The are so many interesting marbles and the seems to be a very knowledgeable community here! I hope you don't mind me sharing some of my favorites.
