Hello! This cat’s eye has that frilled look I associate with El Aguila and vintage Vacor (since seeing this pointed out in a Stephen Bahr video!) but I have a lot more still to learn about both cats eyes and Mexican marbles so I’m posting in hopes someone can straighten me out.

Is it actually Vitro! 

Maybe it’s Asian… just curious about this one!

I wanted to hone in on these specific Vacors because I don’t see them in the ID guides I find online or in Steven Bahr’s videos (I think).

The speckled one — I have a bunch of Galaxies with different colored speckles but this one does not have a black base. It is brown/dark amber transparent base glass with red speckles and a few white speckles. The blurry photo is my attempt to show light shining through… Any ideas?

The second is 42 mm and sort of Fiesta-ish except there’s blue where there should be green. Curious if anyone knows what these are?

Ooooh cool! I can’t remember for sure where I got it but i think it’s from a group I found at a consignment store that had been brought in by a widow of a collector. It had lots of treasures that the store didn’t recognize. That would be very exciting. My collection is interesting for me but I don’t have tons of show stoppers. 

Oh wait… I think it’s a two seam so that means NOT hand gathered? Is that right?

Hello, I watched Stephen Bahr’s great video on slag ID’s and now I’m wondering if these two wounded warriors are CAC’s. These aren’t show pieces or valuable in this condition but it would be exciting to be able to say I have CAC’s in my collection. Appreciate your help as I am still learning and slags are extremely confusing to me!😜

No I think you’re right. It’s just a strange looking one and came in a great bag I bought that was filled with treasures so I’m interested to ID. But maybe it’s not possible for this one…

Hello, I initially put this with an American maker but on closer look is this Japanese? Yasuda? I can’t see a pontil… 

Very seedy with some debris in the glass - I read something here about another maker where that’s common…

Mojo! Thank you SOOOO much for opening up a whole new world of marbles for me. I'm now watching the Stephen Bahr interviews with the founders of El Aguila and Vacor, and I'm finding other marbles that were in the same bag with this boulder. So you solved multiple mysteries because I found these tiny cats eyes and brushed patch marbles that didn't look American, Asian, or like anything I've seen so far (I'm still a learner though!). And, I hadn't thought to shine a blacklight on them but I did and found they do contain cadmium glass! 

You have really opened up the world of Mexican marbles -- they are incredibly beautiful. One of the graphics in the video mentions the "frilled" pattern in the core of the marble, and that's part of what blew my mind and made me leap to the idea that this must be hand made. They look like Sparklers, but with more vivid colors. Incredible.

I was just wondering - can you confirm about the size - at 35mm (about 1.4") is beyond typical for American marbles during the earlier period when El Aguila was producing marbles, I thought, but like I say I'm learning! I can't find as much info as you find about the American machine mades.

Also, El Aguila has the orange peel texture (at least sometimes)? If you have any references you'd recommend, I'm eager to learn more!

Sounds bananas, but I bought a bag of marbles for $12.50 today, and so this probably isn't an Atmosphere... but, is it? 

It was in a bag with some clearies/solids, some modern Asians, and some from House of Marbles... which may be where the Vacors came from. At least 5 of the marbles are Vacors I believe - they have the orange peel texture and/or I found their names, including a 22 mm (7/8") Dragon, and 35mm (about 1-3/8") Frosted Rainbow, Oily, and (pretty sure) Jupiter. Pictures of those are included at the end, but the one that I'm wondering about is this 35mm (1-3/8") boulder with orange peel texture. Could it be an Atmosphere or is that just wishful thinking? Of the types I've seen discussed on Stephen Bahr's video about Atmospheres, it's most similar to a wave-type. Any Vacor experts able to weigh in? 

Aaannnd... I already found an error. Marble King makes a variety of sizes... what I'm not sure about is whether they started out with a smaller range? Hmmm this chart may need more work! 

Hello! I'm new to this forum, but found your post when I was trying to visualize Chuck Sumner's great information from AllAboutMarbles, which he linked above. Where did you get your measurements from - your own collection or other sources? I tried to make sure that they line up with Chuck's and they do of course! So based on those two sources, I made a version that's a graph.

It's alphabetical with the idea that you might wonder, "is this a Master" for example and then check the chart to see if the size seems right. Groupings aren't alphabetical obviously but I wanted this to be at-a-glance without too many columns. I have found it useful in checking some IDs so I thought I'd share it and see if anyone else finds it helpful. I'm very open to corrections and feedback.
