Mid-Atlantic of West Virginia, Inc.

Ellenboro, West Virginia

1937 – 2004

Marble production:

1990 – 2004

The Mid-Atlantic company was a well-established decorative glass making facility when it expanded into marble and flat “gems” in 1990.   The marbles and gems were solid colors, sometimes with iridescent finish, for purposes such as mosaics and flower arranging.

Their first marbles for play were made in 2001.  These were swirls, many red, white and blue.  Some reports say the run was made to commemorate 9/ll but it probably occurred during the summer.

Production numbers are not known but they were limited.  Some of the swirls have an iridescent finish.

Soon after their first play marbles were made, the economic pressures of rising glass and gas prices and increasing competition from China took their toll.  Little activity has been reported at the factory since 2003.
