DUCKS IN THE POND
Object: To knock the most marbles into the hole or pond.
Set Up: A small hole dug out with a taw line* 6-10 feet away.
Ante: Three to five marbles per player.
Rules: Each player stands with his back to the
hole or "pond" and eye drops*
his marbles
randomly. (See Eye Droppers in Section Three) Players then
take
alternate turns shooting their taws* towards the "ducks" or target
marbles,
trying to knock them into the pond. A player's turn is over
when he
misses and he always shoots his taw from where it stopped
previously.
The game is over when all the ducks are in the pond with
the winner
being the person who knocked the most ducks in the hole.
TAW LINE*
The marked line from which players shoot or bowl their marbles. The distance from the taw line to the targets varies with the games.
EYE DROPPERS*
This is the name of a shot which requires the player to hold his marble at eye level and drop it from that point into the ring.
TAW*
Another name for a shooter marble, usually slightly larger and prized by its owner because of its importance in most games.
