  1. These boxes were purchased from an antique shop in Ohio or W. Va. years ago. They are full of advertising bags. There is a never-opened full box of Rainbows, a never-opened full box of catseyes, and a 7/8ths full box of cats.

Every pkg. of cats has 2 or more St. Mary's cross-thru marbles and several pkgs. have the rare catseye in pink glass.

I'd like to sell these boxes and bags but have no idea of value. I wonder if the Rainbow bags have any Watermelons, Green Hornets, Dragonfly's, or ??????

  2. The countdown is on for the show next month. WooHoo! I have filled lots of plastic boxes with W. Va. swirls. It was fun sorting out the various colors of browns, blues, and grays. They browns look like bits of caramel candy. And WOW on some of the transparent wirepull/swirl types. So many marbles and so little time left to organize.

BTW: Is it okay to pop them in your mouth to clean them? Hahaha. The old man I live with throws a fit when I do.

  3. I'm wondering- what marbles do you all take to shows for your $1 pick-through marbles? Do you have $2, $3, $5 piles?

While sorting, I've been using a magnifying glass and setting aside any with small dings thinking collectors only want mint? (The cracked mibs and ones with a sizeable chip are flung in the marble trench outside my back door). Will collectors pay a buck or two for a colorful example that may have a couple of small dings/touchmarks?

    Thanks!

  4. I have probably 30-40 Christensens with a couple 3/4" I believe. No over-the-top killer flames like in your collection. Only one larger Guinea - amber based - that's a little rough.

I am plowing through the marble boxes slowly but surely and will certainly set them aside and post photos.

Thanks again Galen. I sincerely appreciate your time and advice.

  5. Thanks Galen. One of the original German boxes of handmades includes a blue latt. If it were you, would you take them to a marble show or put them up for auction via Ebay? Would you set a reserve or perhaps a BIN option? Sorry to bombard you with questions but I have been out of the marble loop for about 8 years or more.

I do have fifty or so plastic marble holders full of Alleys, Ravenwoods, and other W Va. swirls. Each case holds 25 marbles. They are the higher end flames, colored base glass, etc. mibs. Perhaps I should sell them as a whole collection?

Thanks very much for always being willing to help me.

  6. Yeppers! The last few days discussions have got me so riled up that I threw my husbands new golf clubs and bag in the dumpster behind the mini-mart. The chief-of-police (who is my husbands cousin) is on his way to get me as I type. I say "bring it on Beuford"! I got my spud gun/marble gun all hairsprayed up and I'm ready to git me a copper.

  7. Hello everybody- it's me Gail

I am trying to get some marbles around for the WVMCC show next month and it's a real head scratcher. I can't possibly cart them all in the Tiajuana taxi I'm driving so whatcha think? Handmades and Akros? Ravenswoods and Alleys? Peltiers and Vitros?

I'm serious here. They are all so gorgeous it's giving me a headache. Are there still handmade collectors out there? I have some original boxed sets I need to sell and many more plus 10-12 solitaire boards w/ handmades.

Thanks for any advice. I need it and appreciate it.
