I can't tell you all how great and welcoming you are to the ignorant newbie. I sincerely appreciate all of your guidance. CAC seems special to me. : ) As does EVERYTHING else I've learned in the past few weeks i.e.: Japanese transitional, MFC, Akro moss agate, peltier anything, swirl this, swirl that, 100 year old anything....I am seriously freaking out....(but enjoying every second. )There is a marble show near me on Sat (Portland Maine) and if I can make a visit (which I hope to if I can a catch up on neglected chores) what should I bring with me to talk about? Meaning, what would the serious guys want to actually talk to me about! : ). Pictures of my collection are in the gallery. Please and thank you! : )

Yeah, I've been drawn to those kind of chip marks being Pontils. They just seem different to me than the more obvious nicks and abrasions.

I only have one shot that is bad...but it's a white marble with that layered ribbon running across.

Two marbles, same deep red color, opposite swirls. What might I have? : )

PONTILS? The black one really has no other offensive chips other than this, which similar marks (in different marbles) have been identified as chips, is that just a chip?

Hmmm. That seems unlikely, but who knows right? Grandpa died in 80 or so and somewhere cousin got them. It was just always grandpa's collection. I'll have to ask cuz exactly when she got them, because I know she just packed them away and did nothing with them. She's in Morocco now(where she lives half the time) so who knows when we'll connect. Why does it feel bad when someone says it might be modern? I say that in jest of course, because really, I'm just grateful I have these wonderful things! : )

There were a bunch(5/6) more in different colors like red and green. (I really liked the red because it reminded me of peppermint) but hubs gave them to sis because he thought they had value.(from ancient mom memories) This one got missed. But if the thought was Akro I'd let him live with a few others in his color, if I ever figure anything out! Haha.

What do you suppose those strings of black are? They look like coarse hairs.

Yes, I think so. In hand it is orange, and there is also a thin yellow stripe below the Orange and white just before the blue.

What is transitional? Something between a slang and a swirl? I've seen that term and not quite sure the meaning. I'm guessing it's about production. Yay, pinch pontil. I'm trying to learn pontils and mine are pretty beat up so it's hard to tell.

Dark and blurry, but could that be a pontil or just a chip. It perfectly round little divot
