Pretty sure Peltier, but is it unique to have the blue?
•~Emily~• replied to •~Emily~•'s topic in Marble I.D.'s
It was just too pretty not to ask. Up til now I’ve only ever bought a handful of single marbles. Most of my collection comes from estate sales or thrift stores or eBay. I’ve always kept each bunch I have separated in old cigar boxes in the original purchase groups. Going through now and trying to pull any in good shape or ones I’ve always wondered about. I’ve seen some of the more special ones with names that don’t seem that distinguishable from others so figure it’s always good to ask. -
Trying to corral all my teeny tiny Peltier into one pen. Should this one be rounded up into the mix? Always thought it was. I know it’s kinda rough but it’s got me charmed.

Thanks! I just found it in a random little bag I had stuffed in a drawer. I had AV on the brain and thought I had a great of example somewhere. I may be dredging somewhat of a proper tiny collection after all. I still have many old wooden cigar boxes to go through. Plus I could have good stuff and not even know it 🤦🏼♀️

Measures 38/64. Is it unique to have this pale blue situation going on? I really like this one for some reason so just wondering if is a notch above common by any chance. I’ve not seen one before.

Thanks so much for the pointers. I’ll futz around a little more and see if I get better results with different light angles. I clearly need a diffuser to get rid of that reflection from my lamp.

You can say that again! I tend to definitely be drawn to the larger size when it comes to swirls or slag etc. This one is just a real piece of artwork If you ask me. It looks much prettier in person. What is it about photos that detract from a marbles beauty? Curious. Maybe I just need to figure out better lighting etc.

Thanks for fueling my little fantasy. What a great way to start my day with all of your fabulously tasty morsels of information. I’m a ceramic artist and have also done glass fusing(kiln formed glass). Im in love with the chemical chemistry side of glaze for creating color in ceramic glaze(although not very knowledgeable). Very similar to glass coloring I would imagine. I also had dreams of going to the bullseye glass factory in Portland Oregon to see their process for making art glass stock. Pulverizing a marble sounds awful 😣 In my fantasy it’s more like a swab test 😂 Over time you could just gather all the chemical compounds of each color and form a spectacular marble family tree. All of this fantasy of course came about from me wishing there was an easier way to learn to ID

I honestly think in theory it’s possible, chemical component wise and all. Mainly having to do with the color components of the glass. It would just be a very elaboratively labor intensive and monetarily exhausting undertaking. But! In the future, maybe not so much. Also things along the lines of carbon dating and matching…okay, too late to go back down that rabbit hole.

Stellar…I was hoping I’d finally gotten it right. I thought maybe the wispy blue carrying through might be a clue.

Thanks! This just gets more interesting by the second. The other day I was sitting at work pondering if there would ever be a way to get the “dna” of a marble’s glass and figure out its lineage, lol. Obviously traipsing around on this forum has got my brain reeling….or should I say rolling

I do have some squarish marbles.. I just have to accept I’ve got a ton to learn. Baby steps. You guys are awesome! I so appreciate the help 🤜🏼

Aww, thanks Chad. Im so grateful for everyone’s insight and all the great info here. And best part, seeing everyone’s amazing collections. Wow!

Yeah, I love that one too! It’s had a rough life. I have a soft spot for those though so have plenty of discarded ragamuffins. Just can’t seem to get rid of them. Maybe as I progress in collecting I’ll become less sentimental. I always wondered if it could be a CAC.

This are some beauties for sure! I appreciate the input and examples…and of course everyone humoring my silly analysis of my mibs.

Yeah, was giving buries oxblood vibes to me for some reason, lol. But I’ll take stellar Rainbo any day of the week ☺️ Thanks!

Thanks 🔥! Still trying to figure out that whole separation. I’ll keep digging in my tiger eyes hoping for an Easter egg 🤞🏼

Thanks! I just love it so thought it deserved a proper ID

More Silly questions from me. Did Jabo make oxblood marbles and is this an oxblood? Is this even a Jabo? I’m starting to think all my smaller wet mint marbles must be Jabo. I have a couple jars of them but this one didn’t come out of those jars.

This was one of my first marbles I ever fell for. My boss lost her father and I was helping her clean out his estate. He had a small box of marbles she was going to discard and I immediately knew I had to rescue them. All trouble from there on. I’ve amassed a lot of so so marbles but now trying to learn more about ID. Figure this one should be included in getting going on that. I just think it’s lovely 🥰 This is the box of marbles that got me hooked. I’ll never separate out his collection. I love everything about it, from the plastic box to the provenance.

Wow! Thanks for showing all of your beauties. Love seeing the variety. It really helps to see others to get a better idea of a type.

Thanks! I think I have one of those around here for using as a template when making miniature hat boxes. I do those for dollhouses, but just made the connection that a teeny tiny hat box would be the cutest little box for a marble, lol. So maybe I make marble boxes, not hat boxes 😏

To-mato/Ta-mato Po-tato/Pa-tato , they’re all just pretty to me. But I’m determined to get past that stage of collecting, lol. I appreciate your input. I’ll have to do some more research on that topic. I don’t have many larger marbles and those two are some of my faves.
