  1. #3 - eBay

#2 - Hobby Lobby - Vacor mixed net bags are cheap and I've had great luck finding some beauties.

#1 - My favorite place, by far, to buy marbles is right here at work. I work in a medical facility where our patient population is comprised of many elderly people who have held on to not only their childhood marbles, but those of their parents. I have purchased quite a few, but have been gifted even more. If I were to come across some CAC flames, etc. I would be honest and let them know they have something really special. But so far that hasn't happened. My latest gift was a nice lot of Vitro Hybrid Cats, some of which are real killers.

  2. Approx 5/8ths. The base is clear with a yellow-ish hue, but I think that's just from the dirty-yellow bands which appear to all be surface. The base has some bubbles and there are a 2 pics where you can see a dark hair-like inclusion that is sub-surface. Everything else pretty much seems to be at the surface. The color is throwing me, but the structure and bubbles are making me lean towards Pelt.

    Thanks for your help!

  3. Greetings all!

I am trying to help a patient with identifying and estimating any possible value on this marble she's had for some time. It's pretty much 1" as best I can measure without my calipers. If anyone has knowledge of these types of marbles, can you tell me if it's just called a China or ? and if authentic, about when it may have been made? Any rough idea of value would be cool. Just for info purposes as I don't think she's looking to sell it, just curious.

    Thanks guys!

Trying to remember if that's Akro or Master.   Now it's coming to me.

They were sold by Ravenswood under the label Paul Bunyans, but bought from Master I think.

Some Paul Bunyan bags were given an extra tag post-production saying the marbles came from Akro, but I am pretty sure it's Master.

Wow Steph - you really know your stuff!

I last spoke to Ron about the Paul Bunyans marbles at the Decatur show in April, just a few days before he passed away. We had been discussing these marbles over many years and had gone back and forth between Master, Akro and Ravenswood - even though they they don't look like any other known Ravenswood production. At one point, probably about 15 years ago or so, Ron had interviewed a woman whose father worked for Ravenswood and she said that she remembered her father making them. She showed Ron several examples and said that her father would occasionally bring those marbles home when they were still warm. She claimed that he made them on weekends over a relatively short period of time at the Trenle Blake pottery factory that was just a stone's throw away from the Ravenswood site. Trenle Blake is well known for producing the very popular heavy white with green stripes dinner ware that was common in diners and restaurants back in the day. And over the past few years Ron had become convinced that her account was most likely true and that the marbles were actually made, packaged and sold by Ravenswood, just as she described, primarily to supply marbles for the wooden Paul Bunyan/Babe the Blue Ox "Perpetual Motion" Toy.

Ron certainly had other reasons for ultimately coming to believe that this was the history of these marbles but this is the gist of it.

Oh my gosh. What wonderful information. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this history. I was going to hang on to it anyway, but now I have a special affinity for it. I'm going to print this out and keep it with the marble.

Thanks to everyone for all your help over the years. Truly a stellar group of people!

  6. Hmmmm. Interesting. I never considered that. The seams looked odd to me, but the colors and wispy-ness made me think Akro. But there were a few Asian-mades in the mix he gave me, although they all seemed new. Everything else was old Vitros and Pelts. Doesn't mean much, I suppose. But thanks for helping me figure this one out!

  7. I have 9 marbles here with at least 2 views of each numbered 1 - 9 with brief description and sizes. If there are any not Akro can you let me know?

As always thanks for your help. I'm gonna sell all my Akros and I want to get my IDs correct. If you're interested in seeing what I haven it's mostly corks but some cool stuff too.

    Thanks!!!!

I have a shooter that looks similar to yours ( top photos ) same size. I have posted two pics with this reply. When I posted it for ID , the opinions were that it was Marble King.

    Nice marble.

Boy that sure does look very similar to mine. The only thing I would question about it is the patches being the same color. Do Cosmic Rainbows ever have 2 patches of the same color? I haven't seen one like that, but I haven't seen everything. And if not, could it be an error or oddball? Do either of the green or blue colors reach the surface? I'm intrigued by your marble.

  9. Greetings everyone! I was given this most excellent shooter by a very awesome marble friend, and immediately identified it as a Cosmic Rainbow. I don't have my calipers on me, but believe it's just about 1". He indicated that at one point it was identified as some sort of weird MK with the ribbons pushed out to the surface. I have about 50+ Cosmic Rainbows, so I pulled those out for comparison, and this shooter looks like a CR all day long to me. I've posted pics of said shooter, as well as a few CRs to show the similarity in construction. The bubbles in the base, as well as how some of the surface patches extend into the marble just makes me think this is not anything other than a Cosmic Rainbow shooter. But I really would like to hear what the experts have to say about it. I'm open to learning more about this thing.

Thank you in advance for your help!

  10. I posted a link not too long ago about a mystery marble I thought to be possibly Vitro, but found out it was an experimental MK Hercules. I got a lot of good info from the fine folks here, but Jeff54 really stepped up and made it all come together. You may want to check it out. I'm going to attempt to show the link to that post:
