    Optical scatter from microcrystal formation!

    What you’re seeing is devitrification + micro phase separation becoming visible after remelt. The “grains of sand” effect isn’t contamination it’s microcrystalline scatter and density fluctuation inside an otherwise optical melt. When these mid century Corning formulations are reheated outside their original industrial cooling curves, dissolved colorants and modifiers (selenium systems, cobalt/copper systems, alkali modifiers) partially come out of solution. Instead of staying optically uniform, they create light diffusing particulate haze. 🤓🤯
