The Orange and Black one is a Pelt Tiger. The one below it with the purple and yellow one needs pics of its own. The purple and yellow color combo is killer. I want to see that one for surešŸ”„

I see teal and yellow below it. Unfortunately these are photos from an auction listing so I can’t get any other ones šŸ™ƒ

  2. Hi! Newbie here with naught but a handful of mibs to my name. Thinking about buying a beginner lot somewhere. These two stood out to me. Is the orange and black a pelt NL rainbo?

  3. Hi guys! Today while I was picking up a marketplace buy I stumbled across a nice lot of mostly vintage marbles. I spent about 2 hours sorting through them and chatting with the seller. The main thing that popped out at me is what I believe to be a red and yellow akro cork. I’m a beginner with about 20 mibs to my name and this would be a real fun buy for me. However I also know (aka am pretty sure) that there aren’t any big gets in here. What do you think would be a fair price for this? I was thinking 60 but I’ve since downgraded my estimate to 45/50. Seller also had a couple of plastic sports mibs I was curious about resale value for. I would not buy those with the lot, asking for seller. Also I’d love ids of any of the ones I picked out.Ā

You were right they're just the newer patch type, at least I think they still go under the same name

Oooooo whe. You said ā€œnewerā€ I thought you meant imperial. So you’re saying these are MK but with a different construction?

  5. Yeah based on the color primarily I suspected contemporary. Thanks guys! Also I’m way far away from the point where I’d drop 75$ on a single marble! I have like 20 marbles to my name right now lol.

  6. I saw this marble for sale this weekend and was wondering if you guys think it is authentic or modern. The condition was perfect and I couldn’t find any pontil marks but unfortunately the seller was not around to ask. I’m not looking to drop 75$ on one marble at this point in my collection but it was cool to get to see, whether or not it’s an actual German.

  7. Hi guys! I posted a couple pics of an unknown beater I got last weekend and someone suggested it might be a lawn chair (akro?). After looking at pics of these marbles I am somewhat skeptical and said I would post some follow up pics. I’m not sure if the size but she chunky. The glass is dark green translucent. I feel like the lawn chairs, the metallic is way more pronounced?IMG_4504.thumb.jpeg.cd16389b91e0d4b86c07bdc948474ff9.jpeg

Sometimes called "Paper Mache" by some that's not what they are at all. Though light they are made from tree resin. They can be quite valuable and significant in sizer as well. Once you hold one in your hand you'll never forget what they feel like and the specific weight as compared to glass they are quite light.

No, you're absolutely right. I have a bunch of keepers that I've separated out. Some just because I like the colours, others for the crazy big bubbles or crackles you can see.

Also - when I got a good lot of akro, pelts and ravenswood recently, I'd set aside the very small amount of 'junk', a couple of weeks later it occurred to me that in my excitement of all the other stuff, I'd actually assigned about 6 japanese 3 color 9 vane cats as junk!

I have watched that vid about cats eyes numerous times and I’m really excited to get into a good bag of cats and see what I can dig up. They can be so beautiful.

Oh dear, thanks for the warning.Ā

I had high hopes, when I started collecting marbles, that I could hit up my uncle for some interesting stuff. Come Christmas and he gives me a little bag of common cats and informs me that they are "sheep's eyes"... I know he meant well, but this man has spent his life dealing antiques and doing house clearances, I dread to think what he's let slip through his fingers!

I met a guy who sounds like this recently, vintage antiques dealer, had a big collection of vintage marbles and did not know the first solitary thing about them. Although to be fair to these guys, it’s actually not super easy learning the first thing about marbles and this guy doesn’t own a computer so lol

  11. Hi all! I know this is a terrible pic but any ideas? Im thinking Veilliglass? It’s in poor condition, I saw this marble in a lot of marbles a vintage everything collector (not really a marble guy though) let me pick through, he thought it was an onion skin. I told him I’d try to id it for him.

First pick second row last marcle on the right. That’s often sold as a ā€œlawn chair runā€. Dark colored metallic swirls allegedly created by throwing a lawn chair one the JAB/DAS furnace. Nice little piece of marble ephemera rema

    Or so I have read.Ā

Thats another one I was like, I have nooooo idea but it’s interesting. Thanks!

    Ā

edit after looking at some pics I think this is not a lawn chair run marble. It’s much more swirly than that. I’ll try to post some better pics tomorrow.

I’ll keep going with the Blue Ox Blood. At 7/8 I would call this VHTF for sure. I don’t know what you paid. But if it was under $50-$75 you killed it šŸ”„

    RAR

Well I paid 50$ for the lot so I would say I got lucky there since I’m a newbie :)Ā Ā

I just want to clarify for my own understanding, oxbloods are not always red?Ā
