  1. Thanks for all the replies! I'm leaning towards machine made. The "pontil" is literally just some wear by the looks of it. I thought maybe transitional, but it's not got any creases etc. No idea what is up with the blob. Never seen something like that before. it trails off to a fine point, almost like someone tried to fill the cold roll, but failed. It doesn't look like any Veili's I have and I have loads, being from the UK. but it could be Frankenstein type of vibe maybe. The lines in pic 6, look really cool when you tilt the marble back and forth, they kind of "band" like moire lines. I'm certain it's not modern handmade i.e. Lampwork - it's just too messy for that. it's also not boro, definitely a manganese base by the UV reaction. Which some of my Veili's exhibit too. it came in a lot of old marbles someone got from their grandad, none of em modern, so it's definitely vintage at least. Whatever it is, it's in with my favourites.
  2. Managed to get a picture of what I thought could be a ground pontil, but not sure. Might be wear/damage. So hard to photograph... Also added a picture of the ground/faceted pontil of one of my confirmed Greiners. which I managed to photograph a little while ago.
  3. Hiya, I bought this based on photos online, thinking it resembled a single gather/transitional. Upon arrival I've not been able to find a pontil scar/facetted pontil etc. But it's certainly an interesting one. There's a small area that looks like it could have been a ground pontil, now worn down a bit, but I'm not convincing myself yet. It's where all the white come to an end n the 2nd photo. It's got a weird "tail" that appears as a blob of glass in a small indent, that then runs and drizzles off. No real ideas on what that could be. What I do know: It's got that faint Manganese glass glow under 265nm, like Greiners I have. The glass "feels" old - I know, I know. but it feels a lot like my german handmades and my greiners. Not like any of my modern machine/handmades. There's a few spots of "debris" in the glass, also a lot like my Greiners. and a few small "pop" marks. Someone suggested it could be a newer "lamp/torch" marble. It honestly doesn't look machine made, but again I could be wrong. And it may be a transitional, where the "blob" is hiding a crease? Whatever it is, it didn't cost me an arm and a leg, and it's quite lovely. 24mm/0.94" Thanks!
  4. Anyone got any ideas on a value for 1 of these? I know that's always a bit crass to ask, and I'm never gonna sell it, but it helps me justify the continued buying of auction lots to my wife! hahaha.
  5. Hello, I'm Warren. A relatively new collector (2years or so) I'm from the U.K. and love German Hand mades and European machine made (Sparklers, and English Whisplers particularly) recently got into American machine mades which are so much fun. I have a soft spot for any WV swirls.
  6. Awesome stuff, can't believe it popped up in the UK. found in a large lot of mostly Euro sparklers and some cats eyes.
  7. Hate to resurrect such an old thread, but I believe I've found one of these in The U.K. 14mm / 9/16" / 0.55"
