Banded Mica Marbles

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure I even know what you mean by banded micas, so obviously I don't have one. Or maybe I have one, but I don't call it that!

Could you post one of yours? I really like micas and would love to see an unfamiliar type --

Huh. The closest thing I might have to that would be one of those micas that I think of as an oddity more than a type -- a clear colorless mica with a piece of a thin thread of red floating in the interior . . . mine also has a speck of blue in the vicinity. Small enough so that you can't see it from all angles -- it's sometimes hidden by mica. I've read somewhere that some people believe that this kind of thing is a sort of "signature" of the cane maker, but I'm having trouble with that. For lots of reasons.

I don't remember ever seeing a mica with a colored smear/stripe/band on the surface . . . but I sure would like to! Maybe someone here can help us out . . .
