I'm a newbie, but I agree with the above statement. AWESOME!!

Reminds me of a chestbuster from the Alien franchise. Wicked marble! Did Champion make any of these with UV? Would be cool to see one lit up.

This "shooter" really stands out, there is some debris in the glass that creates a nice effect; reminds me of a galaxy/nebula. Is this kiln dust/wash? I remember reading about debris sometimes mixing into the glass, but don't recall the exact term. Furnace dust/wash? The shape is very uneven and noticeably imperfect in-hand. I added two back-light photos with varying degrees of light penetrating, but the non-backlight photos shoe the truest colors. Also, I don't notice any pontil marks; although there are a few fingernail-like impressions that seem to have been left when the glass was still hot but considering the debris and uneven sphere shape I think these just may be additional mistakes. Hoping someone can share directions towards IDing this puppy, I know slags can be quite difficult. One of my favorites from gramps' collection!

Appreciate everyone's input!! Some great info to log for later; direction of the 6/9 spin (Pelt vs Non-Pelt) and the fact that not all pelts contain feathering.
-
@Fire1981 Thanks for the input, glad you like em! I stumbled across your recent post looking for pelt slags in a search tonight so I'm happy you saw these! Pelt slags really are great, their feathering patterns are so delicate but defined! A bit easier to differentiate from other slags for a newbie like me haha Curious what makes you think #5 is not a pelt and an Akro instead. I imagine it's something to do with the seams, they are noticably closer than the others.

A small group of pretty slags I'd appreciate some assistance identifying! TYIA š Light-Blue 15mm (Marble #1) My guess is Peltier on this one Amber 15mm (Marble #2) My guess is Peltier or Akro on this one Peltier because of the feathering Akro because of the seam I'm curious how others would call this base color, I'm stuck between brown/amber Dark-Red 16mm (Marble #3) My guess is Peltier or CAC Peltier because of the feathering CAC because of the possible diaper fold in 3rd pic (left column, 2nd row) (Disclaimer: I still don't fully grasp diaper folds) Light-Blue 14mm (Marble #4) Don't have a good guess for this one, but it's a pleaser! The blue in this marble is noticeably lighter than the other two light-blue marbles in this group Light-Blue 15mm (Marble #5) My guess is Peltier again

Also, these were going to be a few of my focuses moving forward to improve my ID photos, any feedback is welcome: Natural light whenever/wherever possible 2 desk lamps to be arranged on opposite ends of marble in low light Black or neutral dark soft cloth with minimal pattern to distract camera focus Small stand for marble that does not obstruct, I plan to search the hardware store for cheap elastic o-rings Tripod to hold phone/camera for maintaining exact angle Are macro-lenses for iphones any good for marble photos? I imagine there are some USB macro cameras that could take some fantastic shots of detail.

Last one for now, I do still however have a handful with similar white/red features that Iāll have to figure out. This is completely opaque white/orange with a single swirl and UV reactive.
-
This UV reactive marble has darker reds, almost like an amber. There are also more stripes of clear.

These two seemed different from the four above, so I separated them out. These seem more red and the white has more layers.

āCarnivalā ( heavy emphasis on the air quotes) and another that got sorted alongside just because of slightly similar coloring. I donāt expect the right marble to be an Alley.
-
Iāve gone ahead and taken more pictures with less quantity per shot and at least two angles. Also, upon further inspection it seems that some are UV reactive which I have taken pictures of. The only mention Iāve stumbled across of similar marbles was a video about Cairo Novelty by Stephen B. I imagine there were more makers than Cairo, Iād appreciate any info shared about this topic as I have a handful of other UV reactive marbles to ID. I donāt currently have access to calipers, but plan to snag some in the coming future. Using a standard ruler it seems all of the following marbles are 5/8ā with some being a hair smaller or larger. Is a very slight variation in size common amongst older marbles? Some of these also seem just ever so slightly oblong. Also, is there a preferred unit of measurement, mm or inches? Chad, I took a closer look at the ācarnivalā I found, and I do now think I mis-identified. Iāll add some photos below. The reasoning I believe itās not an alley carnival is because the bands of color are not as segmented as your example (BEAUTIFUL SHOT BTW). It has more of a single corkscrew swirl. Any thoughts on what it is, and the marble beside it? Appreciate all the welcoming help, this has been quite fun!

Howdy everyone, this is the first batch of marbles Iād like to try identifying. I have a feeling that while they are rather similar in colors and patterns, there may be a few different manufacturers. My initial thought is that most of these are alley agates, due to the colors and patterns. I have (or think I have) identified an alley carnival, which leads me to believe that other marbles from the collection are also Alleys. I worry Iām committing a cardinal sin by only posting one angle of these marbles, I will try to avoid this mistake moving forward.

Hello marble aficionados and experts! I'm a newbie to the marble world, at the spry age of 27. In early 2020 I took to YouTube to fill my new-found free time while staying home and isolating, stumbling upon Corning Museum's account per the suggestion of an engineer friend who produces art glass. I quickly became infatuated with the masters Mark Mathews and Bill Gudenrath. Over the past year and a half I have just barely dipped my toes into the world of marbles, picking up a handful of modern contemporaries from eBay; but nothing special. I fortunately live within an hour of a marble mecca, Moon Marble Company, but unfortunately they have been closed the past year so I have yet to visit :/ This past week I stumbled upon a collection of marbles that were sourced by my great grandfather while he lived here in Kansas. I decided that it would be a fun project to sort and identify as many of the marbles as I can, with the grand goal of creating a display to present to grandma. It's a rather small collection just filling a vase, but from my first glances and rudimentary marble knowledge I believe there to be quite a few of interest. It seems to me that may are masters, alleys, vitros, and probably a variety of others that I have yet to wrap my head around. I plan to post these in a trickle rather than one large ID dump, as it both takes longer to sort/photograph than I initially thought and I also like the idea of bolstering my knowledge as I progress through the ID phase. I'm hoping that eventually I'm posting these marbles with correct identification before expert input! S/O to Steph and her study hall, I imagine it's going to be a big crutch for me!! I will also note that I was surprised by the lack of ID videos on YouTube, it seems the real meat of content is all posted by Stephen Barr. I binged through most all of Stephen's YouTube videos on identification. I was surprised to find no 'sorting' type videos on YouTube; do they exist? It seems that many other collecting hobbies are flooded with these types of videos on YouTube, such as coins and trading cards. Some other random info about me; I'm a software consultant for food pantries, I'm an avid Oldschool Runescape player (IGN: Fuzzy Chubbs), I've collected pokemon cards since I was 5 years old, and I'm currently converting a 'skoolie' with my girlfriend of 6 years. I'm eager to learn more about this wonderful hobby with exceptional people!
