  1. Am I right that the large marble is an oxblood ? Maybe the one to its right. Other 3 ? Anybody ? Spent all day trying to figure these out for sure ! Feel like the brain cells i forfeited in my youth are finally catching up !
  2. I cannot express how much i appreciate everybody's input on here! I have tried more than a couple other sites and only became more confused ! I've learned more since I signed up her than I have in the past year since I inherited the collection ! For this i thank you all !
  3. It's a stamp from the IBIS paint app lol. I tried to dry arrows in my photos app but it looked like a preschoolers art project lol
  4. At the risk of sounding uninformed (i am )...also akro as in akro but not oxblood right ?
  5. Still trying to figure out the 17,000 different types of oxbloods ! How did i do ? Was i right ? And what the heck are the other 3?
  6. It is endless ! I have been focusing on oxbloods lately because they were the most fascinating even before I learned that they were oxbloods. The problem is that the unique design of each style ensures no two are ever exactly the same ! With my minifigures it was a matter of learning every torso, every head, every legs, every hair style etc . But those are exactly the same ! Marbles NEVER ARE ! I think i should choose a less complicated marble type because oxblood variations are infinite !
  7. Overboard is never a thing ! Lol does the dual lighting not create bright white spots in the pics ? It's reflections of things on the marble i think. Including light sources , my phone etc ....
  8. About 99% of my marbles are pre 1970 but my kids have gifted me a few modern ones. The ones with speckled of glow are the newer ones. But what a very cool discovery my son made that night because I had no idea this was even a thing ! I gave my cousin a couple of very cool oxbloods a while back and I now literally keep myself up at night wondering if they were plutonium ! Lol
  9. OK guys ! When exactly were you planning on telling me about these ? My son recently became facinated with black lights so I got him a little black light flashlight. Imagine my sunrise when he walked into my dark bedroom last night and my marble corner lit up like an airport ! Any ideas on these fluorescent guys ?
  10. Im still trying to figure out the best way to photograph glass marbles ! With lights and angles and reflection it's nearly impossible to get a perfect photo of any one of them ! Atop a tiny clear glass jar is clearly not the answer lol
  11. I took more photos of the 3rd marble as requested. Thank you everybody for your input. I learn more just checking in on this site then I do with days of searching and reading !
  12. Wow very interesting ! That is quite the process. All of the ones I have been able to identify so far have the oxblood very near or appears to actually be on the surface. The photos you shared with the deep oxblood are absolutely beautiful and lead me to believe that I may have missed some ! Thank you so much !
  13. I would like to apologize in advance for my questions. Whenever i developed an interest in something in the past I just started searching and reading until I knew everything I needed to know. Marbles, not unlike Lego mini figures (my other addiction) apparently require a lifetime of learning to understand ! Please bear with me ! I have 3 things on my mind ! First one ! So I found this Itty bitty teensy tinesy thing and I absolutely love it to pieces ! Had to share ! I wasn't near my caliper so I placed it next to a small blue Aleve tablet and a guitar pick. Second ! The old marbles with the ribbons of color....are those ribbons of color called ribbons ? waves ? For some reason I want to call them swishes but im pretty sure Nike already owns Swish ! And why do some marbles have the same type of ribbons on the surface of the marble rather than inside ? And what exactly are those swishy marbles called ? And third ! Any ideas on what themulti colored marble in the third photo[ is ? My Google image searches kept coming up with Jaba but it looked nothing like the others. I like how the salmon top and bottom are completely opaque but the center orange has much more depth ! The salmon stripish things are wider on one side. I thought it was going to wrap around but instead it just tapers down on the opposite side..... it's a beautiful piece
