On the subject of what kids called Akros ...

I'm puttering around my newspaper archives and seeing again how in the late 30's in Wisconsin at least, people seemed to think the Popeye Marble Set was pretty hot stuff.  It made it to prize lists and wish lists.

So, I don't know if the name was all about the box -- and the box being special all by itself -- or if the name made it to the marbles inside also. 

 

(Of course we know that sometimes the marbles inside were what we call Popeyes, and sometimes the marbles inside were oxbloods.)
