Motorcitymarbles
Hi everyone, I am a new collector. Just bought my first box of 120 or so at an estate sale for $20. I'm overwhelmed trying to use the internet and images to identify these. Could someone please help. Thanks
Steph
Hi. Welcome. From left to right: Marble #1 is interesting. Looks like a patch in the first photo and a swirl in the second. Not sure what to make of that. On #2, I started to say West Virginia Swirl, but now I'm also considering Akro Lemonade. Do you have a blacklight? I'm curious to see if it glows brightly under UV light. #3 and #4 are WV Swirls. (There were about 10 companies in West Virginia which made swirls in the 1930's through 1950's, with one continuing on past that.) #5 is also likely a WV Swirl, but the kind known as "Transparent Swirl". I considered the possibility of it being a "Slag" which would have been a little earlier, but I think Swirl. #6 is likely an Akro Moss Agate. The damage is obscuring the pattern, but I think that's what it will turn out to be. I expect that one will also glow brightly under blacklight.
