1846 from what I read is earliest record with glass . Process was This tool that resembled a pair of tongs w/ a small cup on one end and a slicing device on the other. A molten glass rod would be forcefully inserted into the cup, & the worker would then twist the cup, which would help form the sphere of the marble. Squeezing the tongs shut sliced off the rest of the glass. Etc

 

Venice or Germany for origin and Marble is a German based word .. so toss up 🤷🏻‍♀️

and then of course the first patent 1900 Martin Frederick Christensen

From what I can gather the method was called "single gather"  (before the handmade cane) method & yes in between 1845 & 1850 & a bit beyond, some controversy surrounding them just looking for all points of view  :)  This link is just about sulphides< I Will post others though
