Chinese Glass History

@YasudaCollector Thanks for posting this - it is a very interesting topic. I took a liking to the old fire tree sulfide paperweights quite a few years ago. Here are a couple of highly faceted ones I just acquired. I really like the way that light and reflections play on the faceted surfaces. When you walk around and look at them there is a really neat sort of kaleidoscopic effect. 🙂

Whoa! Those look awesome! (I definitely agree that the kaleidoscope effect is very cool!) I've also heard some of them can be pretty rare/valuable. I don't think I've come across any that complex. I did find one a while back though. Its a pair of koi fish next to a seaweed plant. 🙂

I have seen the fish but I do not own one. They are neat too. The coolest old Chinese sulfide I have ever seen was a sitting "Happy Buddha" (with many children and birds crawling all over him) in about a 3" sphere. I saw it about 25 years ago and it is the only one I have ever seen - I once saw an image of it on the web but I did not save it and I've never seen it again, even though I have searched for years. I have vowed to buy one if I ever see one for sale. But I am beginning to doubt if I'll ever have the opportunity to own one. 🙁
