You're right on the money from what I see. The seller says "Vintage hand painted" I'm guessing "vintage" could mean just about anything except antique ??

Well, the marbles could be vintage but newly hand-painted, or the paint could be vintage and the marbles could be new. ;)

  2. I do gamble once and a while on eBay. For example, have a $20 small lot coming simply because it appeared to have an egg yolk Akro shooter in it, which might be worth $20 if it's particularly mint and the pattern looks as cool as I think it is.

Also sometimes I buy agates that I suspect aren't hand-faceted. About one out of four times they turn out to be the real deal.

My rejects I put in my big jar which I sometimes let neighborhood children take marbles from.

For me the anticipation thrill is almost worth about $20, so as long as I don't do this too often, it feels like part of the fun.

Interesting group of "old marbles" on eBay.  Seller said she bought them together in the UK some 30 years ago.

Four blood alleys (marble marbles), 10 hand faceted, played with, jasper (?) marbles, a clear agate and an ivory marble.  (I've seen more pelt golden rebels than hand faceted jasper marbles.)

Marble marbles range from 13.2 mm to 18.4 mm

Hand faceted jasper marbles are mentioned in Jeff Carskadden's book 'Colonial Period and Early 19th-century Children's Toy Marbles', pg 125

Killer score, Hansel! Honestly if it weren't for those blood alleys, I would assume that's just another contemporary machine ground mineral sphere set.

From now on I'm peering closer at listings like those.

The only faceted non-agates I have are a rose quartz and this guy, which to my eye looks a lot like the one above your ivory(!) one:

I am at work now so I haven't checked it out on my home computer, but I finally realized I do have that capacity.

When I try to print something, I am offered the option of saving to PDF.  And I'm able to choose the page range for printing. So, yeah,  I could have gotten it myself.  I just never thought to "print" it.

Just pay attention to what DPI it wants to print at. I keep mine to 600 for print, so lots of detail, although that may be overkill depending on the source.

Had to clean this thread up.  The original graphics that I linked to were gone.   I used the Google Books source.   I broke page 380 into three images in order to be able to screenshot it widely enough to be what I hope is easily readable.  So, in case you're saving my images, realize that the middle page is a multiparter.

It would be handy to extract pages 379 to 381 in PDF form from the longer PDF document, but I don't currently have the software for that.

Here's the PDF excerpt. My Windows 10 PC has a "Save to PDF" option so I just saved that page range.
