German pee wees were made extensively for UK game board manufacturers from I believe the 1850s right into the early 20th Century. I have many, probably original, sets including micas, swirls, onionskins and clays. That's just counting strictly half inch sized marbles. At 13-14mm size there are many more. Here's a nice example of a late Victorian FH Ayres complete games compendium with the small rectangular solitaire board and pee wee swirls. I'm sure pee wees were also made for selling separately, but an enormous number must have been imported from Germany by Ayres, Spear, Jacques, Glevum (I have examples by all of these) and others for their boards.

Here's a favourite from the very first jar of German handmades I bought in Edinburgh in a vintage toy shop. Must have been 1991 when I was up for the Edinburgh Festival that Summer. Its 1" and in perfect condition (those are just reflections in the pic). Still love this one 32 years on!!!!

Well I backlit all my Indians - found 3 unexpected maglites but no interesting cores. Here's a rather bashed old soldier - but interesting with the green and white latt strands.

I'm gonna have to take a torch to my Indians Chad - see if there's anything unexpected in there!! Love that Joseph too.

Beautiful Ric - not seen that design before.

Just for a complete change here are clearies I keep in Victorian measuring cylinders. A mix of marbles broken out of old bottles, some bullet moulded marbles and some which can be found on cheaper old solitaire boards. Nothing of any value or rarity but fun to have a few!!

That's stunning!!

I'm hoping your name indicates that we may see some German marbles from your collection!!

And to me - its the kind of transparent glass that we'd call a 'jelly core' if it was central. The marble has a finely faceted pontil so is from the earlier period.

Love those Clams - I need to get one some time as there's none in my collection🤔

Beautiful colours on the second one Chad!!

Nice colour - very attractive transparent banded swirl!

Here's a Chad Valley set - boxed and original. Mediocre quality board typical of this maker - stained pine I think with mostly coreless swirls. Presumably made quite late on in the period - maybe even early 20th Century but that's a guess!

That's a great thought - marble collectors are a great community! I was really referring in my post to the incredible 2'+ rarities which US collectors sometimes post pictures of. These seem to have been exported from Germany directly to the US market in the 19th Century and very few to the UK. So they are very rare over here, unlike the smaller German marbles for UK-made solitaire boards, which are quite common in the UK, and which I collect. Always happy to see your German marbles here on a Thursday!!!

Well I've been collecting longer than I care to remember. And there's collectors on this board with amazing marbles we never see in the UK!!! Keep looking for those Germans...........

I paid around £10 or less in the UK so very hard pass. They are very easy to find over here. Good luck finding them ' it is cool to display German marbles in glassware of the same era!
