  1. Those are amazing! I'm liking contemporaries more and more.........
  2. Hello browse4antiques, That sounds like good practical guidance. Thanks.
  3. Hello Marblemiser, That IS sad. I guess there are only so many old marbles out there. Yes, knowledge, experience and the time it takes to teach all have value. Wish I could "sign you up" but there are no seminars. It was a hopeful suggestion. Goin to the Canton show?
  4. Thanks. Not been to a show yet but I'm going soon. If there is special guests/topics there that's great! Internet stuff helps but nothin compares to 'in hand' learning. Thanks for the info.
  5. I am totaly new, but so many times I have looked to ebay and various sites and have seen - no bids - for what looked like great marbles. Then there were large bids for what looked like damaged marbles. Clearly there is lots to learn. Are there tell tale signs of fakes? Or of fantastics? Well there are those that can help, no??? I used to go to a geneology conference and I learned so much. Why can't there be a "conference" or seminar or whatever that charges people to learn about different aspects about marbles and marble makers.. Maybe this already exists and so forgive me. But I would go to this and so would some of my friends. Please let us know..... Thanks! flyball
  6. Hello, I have a wonderful looking marble (actually I collect them for inspiration for paintings along with - the 'I just love them'- factor) But it is definately dull on the surface. I am not sure of age etc. but can anyone suggest a way to liven a marble up on it's surface with out reducing any value that may be there? ( I will likely sell the marble either with or without the painting, once done) Thanks!
  7. Thanks sissydear, You didn't scare me off. Actually I used to do the sport of flyball (friendly dogsport) where, yes at camping you could once in a while observe the" have drink -- will raise heck" situations. But the name flyball I thought fit for my new interest : I can often be found by my husband "flying" around the internet looking for pretty little glass "balls" . Looking forward to meeting people and learning!
  8. Wow! lots of great advice. Everyone is so helpful. Notebook and flashlight - never would have thought...thanks! As for the overeating..... unfortunately that's a can-do
  9. Good info , thanks so much! Not sure yet which one I will be going to (or both). Can't wait!
  10. Hello, I'm a total newbie here and am excited to have joined! I look forward to learning alot. Everyone is so kind in this hobby! I have a question about the marble shows. I am planning on attending my first one either in Marietta or the August one in Canton Ohio. Having never been to one, can anyone help me out with a general understanding of what goes on? I noticed most say there is "in room trading" that happens before the show. What is this? And when the show is open to the public, any obvious ettiquette one should observe that a newbie may not know about? Thanks for any help you can give me. Looking forward to the show. It seems to me marble collecting is very tactile. Can't wait to see great marbles in person flyball
