Blue is quite different from the typical turquoise shade the submarines have. This one is unusually dark. I can see one cutline, but there should be a second cutline to make it a Peltier.

Is it a submarine? Base should be maglite blue.

Craig, while the Pontil looks nicely done it looks a bit large in diameter in relation to the size of the marble. The structure also is unusual as well as the colors. I’m not convinced it is antique handmade.

I just messaged with Mike Johnson about the marbles in WV museum. The person in charge is Dean Six, Mike’s co-author in American Machine Made Marbles. Mike was surprised to hear and checked it. He told me this morning that the collection supposed to be intact in the museum in a separate room full with marbles. He said he will check it in person in May. Is there a chance you might have not seen and missed this room?

I think it is an early Vitro agate superior. Great marble if it is.

Thank you Craig for organizing this excellent field trip to Brian’s shop. It was a delightful break from marbling. Thank you very much also to Brian for an excellent demonstration of the miller machine. He was very knowledgeable and informative throughout.

Peewee solitaire boards were part of game boxes. I have seen few with mica swirls but never seen with agates. Letter openers and bookmarks used all kinds of sizes and finding with peewee agates are harder to find than larger agates. 

Agate blocks were found in all kind of shapes and the makers probably wanted to use every bit of piece to make the marble specially if the agate is dyed.

I think they cut the stones into cubes first and the smallest piece left would become a peewee at the end.

To be fair to the seller the marble is identical to the marble in Morphy auction. I think it is a late antique handmade, early 20th century. Flat spots take away from grade and value. Very large size.

That marble is most likely a euro swirl some sort. Pretty marble.
