1. Here’s some photos I got of some of his memorial photos etc at the Mineral Wells show today. Was definitely strange not seeing him at a marble show. Nola was there so that was nice to see.
2. Here’s some of the marbles I got today at the mineral wells show. First four photos are what I got. The rest are photos from the show; along with LE Alley III.
3. No politics on this forum, keeps things not ridiculous.
4. Finally a guy whose been saying he’s going to bring his marbles into an antique did and called me. I went through all of his marbles, found some good stuff and only bought that. Bunch of vitro opals, an odd colored helmet, some nice alley Metallics, a few good masters, a couple decent pelts, a bunch of Ravenswoods and a nice Akro sparkler. He had some killer stuff but unfortunately all of the mega killers were all damaged so I didn’t get them. The stuff on the board is what I got from him.
5. Just won this bid on a 1in sized Veiligglas marble. Wish I could find more of the opaque swirls, but I rarely if ever find any mint examples to purchase. Veiligglas opaque swirls are sometimes even more beautiful than even the best alleys but they’re almost impossible to find. I only have three examples of Veiligglas opaque swirls. I did however also purchase tonight a 1in opaque swirl Veiligglas and a 3/4ths in German.
6. I assume you only can go on Saturday, presuming that the show is over the weekend as well. If so, show up whenever it is supposed to start as most start to pack up everything hours before it’s supposed to end. Bring plenty of money as you’ll never have enough compared to what you want to buy. Prepare to learn loads of information and take plenty of photos for reference. Also, take photos of all of older folks as most in my experience have been in the hobby for many decades and you never know when one may pass. Their knowledge is incalculable. I attend marble shows in Ohio and WV so I would presume the people selling will be totally different people than who I see. But obviously, they’ll all be very knowledgeable if they are selling. Talk to as many people as possible and also bring some marbles you can’t place and kindly ask for IDs. I can never make it to the hotel rooms pre weekends as I have a job and can’t take off time from work. But from what I can ascertain the best deals are in the rooms pre show. Even if you can’t make it to the rooms, the show prices; at least what I’m used to way way better than the insanely inflated prices people want on eBay.
7. Me and my gf bought our first house 2 years ago almost. I never thought I’d be domesticated after spending most of my 20s and early 30s partying and traveling but now I’m totally domesticated at 35. Now that I own a house I absolutely love gardening. I just dug out a part of the yard this weekend. The previous year I planted all native plants in the original garden area. I plan on planting all native this year in the new space and to hopefully attract the now endangered monarch butterfly.
8. There may already be a music thread, I didn't see one; if so delete this I guess. Anyways, share you favorite music here. Here's some of my favorite tracks. I am an audiophile, some of these tracks are best listened to with good headphones and or sound systems. It seems on this forum the best way to share music is just copying and pasting the youtube url link. On most forums you have to type the html code but apparently that doesn't work on here.
9. I grew up in the mid 90s and when I was a kid the only marble related thing I played with were these plastic marble runs. I had a huge set and it provided loads of fun for me. I’m sure all the marbles I would have used were just Chinese cats eyes. I never played the actual game of marbles when I was a kid. I wouldn’t have a clue how to actually play the game of marbles; even though I spend ungodly sums of my money on marbles made to do so. Do you have fond memories centered around marbles as a young kid?
10. Oh I guess I should have seen you said by Vitrolite. What do you mean they came apart? I haven’t had any problems with the vitrolite I dug there.
11. Wow, I had no idea. Any idea who made them? Corning maybe?
12. I guess a couple of my other rare items would be a molten glass feeder I dug at Vitro last year. And the 2nd photo is what I’m sure is incredibly rare is glass sheets Cairo would have bought to feed into the marble machine that I dug at Cairo Novelty. The original polytetrafluoroethylene separator still intact. 3rd photo set is also an incredibly rare boulder sized mint Akro marble that Roger Hardy dug at Akro. Akro hardly made any boulder sized mibs.
13. That is simply amazing and it’s in such incredibly shape. Must have been bought and immediately forgotten about and then hidden in an attic for 100 years.
