Just picked up a small batch of this style last weekend, all around .59-.63 inches.

the way the band fractures into whispy filaments seems to be a telltale sign of vitro. Is that pretty accurate or a common trait among other manufacturers, too?

I agree, cool topic. Paperweights are what brought me to the marble forum. My grandma I inherited glass marbles from mainly collected paperweights. According to the description in that link, that item isn't even a paperweight, although it does feature the aforementioned millefiori. It looks like it was originally a finial for a lamp or staircase.

I believe these are all conquerors with maybe some phantom conquerors in there, too. Mostly just wanted to show off this nifty new display stand I got in the mail today.

I just ordered this one off amazon today for $9. It was delivered within a few hours. It's digital, has plastic "teeth", reads out in inches or mm. It comes with a free plastic case and two extra batteries. Very simple to operate. This seems like a flattened out caged catseye to my highly uneducated eye, with this patch inside that looks like a christmas tree. There were two other similarly deformed caged catseyes in this batch, without any aventurine inside. 5/8"

Starting to sort through grandma's marbles and learn some basics. These all seem to be Vitros, some whities, blackies and all reds? Here are a couple interesting ones I pulled out: These are my first attempts at taking pics of my marbles. Just using an iphone for now, experimenting with lighting. I also have some plastic calipers arriving today in the mail! All the marbles in this post are approx. 5/8" mibs.

Hello everyone, I inherited my grandmother's collection of marbles in the 1990s when she passed away. I've kept them in her original mason jars and old galliano bottles since then. My grandmother helped raise me, taking me to yard sales and consignment shops often to help bolster her collections of glass paperweights and coca cola memorabilia among other things. I mainly just bought books back then but by the time I entered my teens, the passion for collecting she inspired in me was focused on records. I spent a couple decades researching and collecting records from the 60s and 70s quite seriously. Now I'm finally opening up my grandmother's jars of marbles and sorting, cleaning and researching. I've learned a ton already and I look forward to making some new and interesting connections here.
