Just won this bid on a 1in sized Veiligglas marble. Wish I could find more of the opaque swirls, but I rarely if ever find any mint examples to purchase. Veiligglas opaque swirls are sometimes even more beautiful than even the best alleys but they’re almost impossible to find. I only have three examples of Veiligglas opaque swirls.
I did however also purchase tonight a 1in opaque swirl Veiligglas and a 3/4ths in German.
Dude - you take excellent pics! Doesn't hurt you have awesome subjects to photograph.

Most Vitros are patch construction and most JABOs are swirls. Good starting point to differentiate them
Yes! Thank you for reminding me about that.

Yeah, wishful thinking. These classic Jabos are giving me a run for my money trying to figure out if they need to go with my Vitros or not. Thanks for the help!

Thanks! I'll pass along the info. I'm gonna tell him to get ready to do his own research on these because that's not a project I want to take on. I'll stick to my machine-mades!

A friend asked me to ask about some of the marbles he's had since he was a kid. I know nothing about Bennington types and am hoping to get a short-cut answer from y'all rather than do a bunch of research on my own. He gave me just a few examples of what he has to see if there are any values in them before he decides if he wants to try and sell them or not. I only took one pic of the one with the stripes on it as it's the only view that shows any markings.

What a great video and touching tribute to an absolute treasure. Thank you Stephen Bahr. Your videos never disappoint.

Spring is in the air, summers almost here, time to get ready ta catch some nice fresh Columbia River Spring Salmon, Yuuum, yum !! The white spot (L) of my noodle is what's left of Mt. St. Helens, less than a couple months and all the snow will be melted. This pic is from a couple years ago, right now the Mountain and all the foothills are loaded w/ snow but @ 80-90 Deg. F it won't be long.
That is one heck of a fish!

I tried using a small digital camera I bought just for taking marble pics, but my computer died so I have no way of uploading the pics. So I've been using my cell phone and I cannot get it to focus to save my dang life! I bought one of those cube set up things for photographing objects, but the reflections are insane. I've taped up multiple layers of "diffusing" materials to try and eliminate the glare, but nothing seems to work. I wish I could take pics like y'all.

i was agreeing with RAR but the more i looked at that marble, i don't think it's peltier. the other views don't hold up the baseball pattern you'd expect. plus the colors on baseballs are 99% either all one color, or alternate (i.e., "flip-flop"/reverse mirror) on each side. vitros typically have different colors on one hemisphere vs the other. this looks like a nice group of older vitro from where i'm sitting. ♥
Thanks a million!

Correct. My question is, are they both considered pixie dust.
Ooooooh! Before your post I had never even heard of Pixie Dust marbles. You have some cool stuff!

A little late to the party, but #1, these are cool marbles! And #2, it looks like the AV in the top mibs is green and not blue (to me).

Here is a link to a great Vitro ID guide and should help with your question. There's a whole section on Buttermilks, Aquamilks and Aquamarines:

They are pretty rare. Jill's better or rarer marbles, like mine, were hardly ever mint. Mint minus at best but, usually rare stuff would be in the upper near mint range. The site she dug at had several reasons to have been disturbed when dumped and rainwater streams to move them around.
Alternatively, I don't know exactly how many Ray found. I say 2nd addition because the patch and ribbon Hercules was extremely low production. This is a two patch and until Ray found some, there were vary few ever seen, which is why the uncertainty and lack of ID on the net.
Potentially, yours came from an eBay sale; resold by somebody who'd picked up what he'd found and sold privately too? Because Ray sold maybe 30 of them at ebay as well.
But, Maybe he found 30-50 of these. He'd also found 100's, IDK maybe 500 or more early 60's patch and ribbon Wasp. Boy scout and bees and a few practically never seen and others in pristine condition. These would be early 60's too.
I can't thank you enough, Jeff, for this most interesting and detailed info. Talk about having the inside scoop! This sort of provenance will someday be lost if not for archives of forums like this and folks like you who share it. Names, pics, dates, just everything changed how I feel about this marble. This is the beauty of this forum and the reference I made before about how it's like a living book with access to the authors. What a special thing we have and folks like you who take the time to impart this precious knowledge for all of us in the marble collecting community.

Fraid this photo is so old the Graphics are poor. Jill Spencer-dug-up, Paden City piles. Circa Based on the types of patch and ribbons she'd find within: Early 1960's, 2nd edition of the Hercules.
Better photo: Ray Tetrick '1stopmibshop' found some mint examples with a bunch of hybrids and stuff., dug-up under a farmer's shed, or something like that, in 2010. There's 2 in this photo he'd sent me.
Oh wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to post this. I was having a hard time finding this design and now I know exactly what it is and when it was made. You rock!

Looks like 3 color cork to me, unless I'm missing something. Do you count white as a color?
