  1. Hmm, I'll have to go through some marbles me and my brother have. We have a couple that look almost like a cross between the typical Dutch wirepulls and West Virginia swirls. They look like some of the ones that have been posted in this thread.
  2. Ooh! This guy is a real stumper! It's definitely a cool find though.
  3. I agree with William, It kinda looks like a Vitro caged cats eye.
  4. Ooh! Thanks for posting this guys! 😃 I have a whole bunch that look exactly like the ones in @Mojo's picture. I could never quite figure out what they were.
  5. Here's some nice caged cat's eyes I found this week:
  6. So probably foreign? I have some cubes of 1970s ish Chinese millefiori glass that I guess could be decorative too. Maybe some of the factories used up spare glass this way?
  7. Interesting. So could it be a piece of cullet?
  8. Yeah! There's a little antique shop just north of UW. I've talked a little with the owner, and he seems to be getting his stuff through online auctions for unclaimed storage units. He says he doesn't want to take the plunge into ebay for marble groups quite yet. I think he wants to do some more research first. I did recommend this forum to him as a good resource. 🙂
  9. Oh, I forgot to list the size. It's about 1 inch long and an inch wide.
  10. Just found this guy today at the same antique shop where I found the limestone marble. It was sitting in a bin of polished rocks, so at first I thought it was a dyed agate or something. But when I picked it up, I saw the lovely translucent purple. The store owner let me have it for a buck. 🙂 I wonder if it's some kind of game piece. The glass itself almost reminds me of some master or akro patches. The grayish color base glass is pretty whispy and translucent. It even glows a little reddish when held up to the sunlight.
  11. Man! I have some larger cat's eyes that look just like the Taiwan and Japan cat's eyes in the Shackman boxes from those countries.
  12. I agree, I've seen some bags from Taiwan with marbles like these guys.
  13. That's interesting, I can see your post ok.
  14. I happened upon this guy at an antique shop near college this week. It was in a junk bin for a couple bucks, so I figured I'd get it out of curiosity. 🙂 The owner of the store even said that he didn't know what the heck it is. As far as size goes, It's over an inch, but not by that much.
  15. I know its probably really difficult to tell, but are these Ohio clays or German clays? It seems like there's a ton of variation in these guys (and commies in general).
  16. Is it maybe a really early Japanese imperial? (like 1950s or 1960s). The Japanese-made imperials seem to be a lot better made. The glass seems crisper in those marbles than the later Chinese or Mexican imperials. Also, I've looked in @shiroaiko's marble book, and there are some Japanese marbles that look almost exactly like pelts.
  17. Wow! This is a really beautiful marble! 😎
  18. Just thought I'd share some of the cool things that end up being sold at my college surplus shop at the University of Washington. Since a lot of stuff has gone digital now, all sorts of really cool vintage books, office supplies, desk organizers etc are being sold for pretty much pennies. (Binders are only 25 cents, and Staplers are only 50 cents).
  19. I agree! It seems like interest has been rising in Japanese marbles over the last couple of years. Incidentally, I've even told a few International Studies professors at college about my largely Japanese marble collection, and they seem pretty interested (especially in the history happening while the marbles were being made). 🙂 I still think it's cool to go to any antique shop, pick up a marble, and know that it came all the way from Japan 70, 80, or even 90 years ago. 😎
  20. It looks like there are 6 viens. 🙂
  21. Wow! These are absolutely beautiful marbles!!! 😃😃😃 Thank you again for uncovering all of this history. I think its incredible when we as collectors can learn about and appreciate the people who made the marbles we collect. 😎
  22. I found both of these guys (about 0.90") in a jar full of common clearies. A local artist wanted to use them in a mosaic.
