Al and Ric are right one with this one.

It is a nice find and a great ask--a keeper--these are quite old and getting harder and harder to find.

    Marble--On!!

Since I've joined this hobby, the Benningtons, China's and fancy clays have spoken to me.  I have gravitated to them and my collection is growing.

I love the age of them and how imperfect they are.  As a side note I was born in Germany, and my grandmother was German, so I do hold anything German to a higher regard

This is a classic example of a veneered marble.
Notice the white that shows in the cutlines.
If you were to break this one open it would be all white inside.
I think that @Melissa has some input to share here.

    Who are Veneer makers?

Sort of a fancy clay swirl - It's called a Jasper or a lined crockery (German). You can find them with green, blue and/or pink lines.

    Very cool!

    Are these circa 1880s?

Here is an Opal Chad posted in the past - see that orange opalescent glow at the bottom of the marble? That's what you're looking for.

Yours may not be as pronounced as his is.

    Yes....that's what mine looks like!

    Cool.  Thank you
