mmuehlba
well here is a nice find if any one collects this . Mike http://cgi.ebay.com/...em=120934145477 This is a superb example of an early antique Staffordshire .. Hand-Coloured .. `Playing with Marbles` Childs Mug, ... made in the Staffordshire Potteries, ... and dating from circa. 1850. The mug is well modelled .. with a shaped base & loop handle, ... decorated with a hand-coloured print of three children playing a game of marbles. Speed Racer
Too bad about the hairline. And not to put down Staffordshire Pottery, but doesn't it appear as if a child painted it? Since they simply hand painted the colors over the printed transfer, perhaps unskilled labor or children were involved. Note the bad smear on the rim. Still a cool item.
