The Nickel Guy Posted yesterday at 02:07 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 02:07 AM That is the question. Actually, I think they are one and the same. There next to the factory tag is a group of original marbles to it (24 + 1) that came out of that Tree Frog net bag. Out of many assorted bags I have accumulated enough to make 9 sets in all, each with a 1 inch shooter. Now there is a marketed named marble that is available in bulk too and perhaps comes in Mega Marbles net bags as sets. I don't know? They go by the name "Tie Dye". So I just sorted them up, making the more busy and deeper colored ones the Tie Dye and this is the tag I photoshopped to bag them up. Here's a closer look at the busiest darkest set of those seen in the top right corner of the first picture. For the "Tree Frog" here's one of the three across the middle to compare. I simply pulled thinner to nil black and brown swirls and grouped them up. My tag version I made up. So I decided I had 6 "Tie Dye" sets and 3 "Tree Frog" sets. Does it really matter? Two top left sets could have gone either way. I just happen to lean the way of how many tags I had printed up and "Tie Dye" won. Peltier, Ravenswood, Akro, Marble King . . well, most all other companies have established names for certain marbles in our circles. They almost are all out of business too so there won't be any new nicknames but Vacor, they change the marble or change the names and tags a lot. It is pretty tough to keep up with so I just try to have fun with things like this and not go too crazy.
Alta Posted yesterday at 03:44 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 03:44 AM Hah- And here I would have called it a Hurricane. Definitely do not take Vacor names as gospel...
LevvyPoole Posted yesterday at 09:31 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 09:31 AM Oh gosh - yes, I fell into this trap too! Bought a couple of lots, excitedly thinking I was getting a few special Hurricanes, received them and was very underwhelmed to discover this same thing...
The Nickel Guy Posted yesterday at 04:32 PM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 04:32 PM Hurricanes are iridized or "shiny" but I think they are basically the same marble. older Hurricanes are much different than any we'll most likely find in today's assorted bags. Thanks for your comments folks.
Al Oregon Posted yesterday at 07:59 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 07:59 PM Bags... Hurricanes - Pete's definition - Multi-color swirl with white, black, red, yellow and blue. Colors may blend to make a new color.(Note: Not iridescent). Then Tree Frog - Pete's definition - Green base with red swirls (no other colors). Iridescent finish. Tie Dye came after Pete's time so no definition from him. Doesn't show up on Didier's site either. Nor do I have any Tie Dye bag pics from Vacor. 1 1

I agree, Hurricanes also show up as a "frosted type". Names are names but these would all be considered as Hurricanes imho. I do not remember any that had an iridescent finish. There may be some--I just have not seen any. Marble--On!!
The Nickel Guy
Thanks for posting those pictures of the mentioned net bags Al. Those tree frogs are waaaay different huh? Akro, I think I got mixed up with the iridized Hurricane idea and was thinking about Pan American and Unicorn or something. It's all good. Swirls will do stuff like that to ya.

A funny thing, as old as I am to this collecting thing--I can pick out a Vacor but a wvs just puts me back in my tracks. Swirls do "stuff like that" to me as well. Marble--On!!
