  1. This is really interesting to read what others feel about the collecting - please, let's post more!!!!!
  2. I'll start. I collect vintage marbles because I like the way they look. The colors of glass. The way the colors take shapes in the marbles.
  3. What is the reason YOU collect vintage marbles? Do you collect them because: 1) they are pretty to you and you can't put a name for why you like it 2) you just like the way they look - color, style, etc 3) the particular marble came from a certain specific company 4) the glass that made the marble is from an old marble making machine 5) you plan on selling them later to make money 6) some other reason I'll tell you about below.
  4. This is the first Akro marbles I own. I made them last night from Akro cullet someone gave me. Like them? Rich
  5. ok, so it seems everyone wants to keep their little misfits - thanks anyway everybody...lol
  6. lol.. it's just me and my little old drill press...lol
  7. Using old CAC broken cullet, I pulled these out of my kiln last night. By the way, did the CAC company make pee wee marbles? Rich
  8. Thank you all - I certainly am having a lot of fun!
  9. Really, how cool. I have made s train set marble with an engine, coal cars, box cars and a caboose with a train signal on a marble. I use soft glass but I bet you use Boro because it's easier and doesn't thermal shock as easily as COE 104 does. If you torch soft glass, 2" marbles are really difficult to do! Very easy with Boro since one can keep that glass out of the heat for a long time and not worry too much about thermal shocking. I sold the marble at my marble show last year. Do you still have yours for a pix? Rich
  10. Speaking of torching - guess what I am going with some guy's cullet right now? I'm just in from taking a short break! Rich
  11. I've been able to make figurines be more centered with patience and techniques developed over the 8 months of repairing old sulphides. Heat control is very important too. Rich
  12. I've tried adding some modern figurines but the glass isn't compatible with it and it cracks. That's why I need old glass. Also, I thought to have 3 little figurines "chasing" each other might be cool. Rich
  13. I am looking for damaged old sulphides you don't want anymore. I don't care how beaten-up or bad they look, I want to alter them for a project I am wanting to do. I know you've looked at some of my fixes but sometimes they explode in my kiln into 100's of little pieces and the figurines inside turn to dust in the heat of the kiln. So, I am asking you collectors of suplhides to give me the unwanted ones you have that you can't bring yourself to throw away and throw them in my direction. Ok, have I begged enough yet?...lol Please let me know Thanks
  14. And I was 1 table from you and why didn't you show me these beauties? huh?
  15. ok, NOW I am MAD! You shudda told me to comb my hair and beard BEFORE taking those pix!!!!!
  16. I can't believe you said that after all my enthusiasm with the marbles I did see!!!! You crack me up!
  17. Geeze Paul, now you want me to read your mind!!!!! lol, lol, lol
