  1. There are some interesting articles in it. When I first read it , I hoped it would reveal alot we have missing from the European marble history but it did not reveal half as much as I wanted about the companies etc. There are lots of articles about what games are played in different countries. I was looking for sort of a field guide like this marble was made by this company during these years and it is not like that, although some of that info is presented. Interesting articles about stone marbles in Sweden, Marble games in Holland, etc. There is an interesting bibliography in the back I will try to picture for those interested. S
  2. I have been meaning to do this for a long time, David. Here is a wonderful book that is not on your bibliography. It is called the marble book subtitled A book about marbles around the world. It was published by SKF in Goteborg Sweden of all places in 1986. It is in english. It is a charming book of about 128 pages with lots of writeups and pictures. I have tried to take some pics of the book and will attempt to uplaod them. I have 2 copies.
  3. Steph, I bought a tube of those marbles in houston at the museum around 1995 or so. After a few years the paint started coming off and I realized I had a tube of painted marbles too. When the paint comes off you have worthless mibs, probably imperials. S
  4. This might be interesting for some of you. Apparently when this video was shot there was a exhibition of marbles at this museum outside Basel in Switzerland. http://it.truveo.com/CITYGUIDE-Spielzeugmu...nd/id/867454677 Steve
  5. Has anyone ever heard of the westfork glass Co. in Clarksburg, west virginia? Were they one of the lesser known marble co's? or did they ever make marbles? Steve
  6. I know of ltwo movies with marbles on them. One new,The kingdom and one old: To Kill a Mockingbird. Steve
  7. thanks guys for the info and pics. They helped alot. Steve
  8. I have a berry Pink that is white with a lobster tail type red and grey patch but, I have also seen some marbles called Berry Pinks by some collectors that are bluish with a red patch or string in them. Some are part translucent. Can someone clarify the difference or show some pics please? Thanks, Steve
  9. the modern ramune bottles are plastic. They have recently begun showing up in different flavors. The original drink is a very pleasant cider flavor, sort of like sprite. they are typically sold in buddhist and shinto shrines all over Japan. Sometimes at flea Markets I can pick up some that are older and they are made of the same sort of heavy glass that codd bottles are made of. They have a little different design. The marbles are invariably the uninteresting transparent glass clearie type. Steve
  10. Man, I did on these ever time I see one and keep getting outbid. It looks like I may have to part with some bigger bucks to get one. I am jealous. STEVe

    CATS?

ok, now that school is over, I have time to post that bag I told you about earlier. The bag is heavy plastic, this jives with the woman who sold it to me saying it was from the early 60's (no barcodes). I bought it from Ebay's France site in the early days. The header is doubled, (there are two of them). it says " Les Jouets de bout chou" which I am told is an expression equivalent to "toys of little darlin" or little rascal" in France. The marbles themselves are german sparklers. There are about 30 of them inthe 5/8 size and 1 boulder sparkler 1 and 1/8 in size. The majority of them have oxblood. Enjoy.
  12. ok, I checked my stuff last night and can add Luxembourg, French Polynesia, Thailand, and Mexico to the list. Luxembourg and french Polynesia may be balls but if so, they are very small balls or big marbles, who is to say? Mexico is an easter seals release and thailand is also some type of charity but both are stamps with marbles. I know that both Mozambique and England had two series with marbles on them. there is also a FDC out there from the american glass that pictures german handmade marbles on the cachet. (go figure). As far as games played with marbles, both Macao and Sweden have stamps depicting what we call chinese checkers, and Djibouti and Gabon have stamps with mancala on them. Brazill also has a nice FDC with kids playing marbles. Steve
  13. I also have never seen a Germany issue before. Can anyone describe or show it? S
  14. Aruba needs to be on the list too. And if we want to add games played with marbles we could probably add a few more to include djibouti. I'll check at home for others. I have never seen the USA issue does anyone else have it? Steve
