Thanks for solving the mystery Ric!!! 'Glevum Series' on the box instructions means it was made by Roberts Bros of Gloucester 1890-1956. Major English games maker including solitaire boards - I have a few boxed examples. But sadly Clock Tidley is not a marbles board so I'll have to find another home for those 1 1/2" mibs - oh well...........🤣

Just got this odd clock-face board. Its old and 11" diameter but I've no idea what it is so I'd welcome any ideas! It needed 1 1/2" mibs to sit well in the 12 indentations - so I scraped these together for the pic.

Unfortunately I don't know about the original marbles for these two boards. I have seen pictures of these boards showing micas on a Jaques board and swirls on another lighter coloured board. Can't be sure about the originality in those pictures but that's how I decided which German marbles to put on the boards.

I'm stoked to have found another example of the very rare Royal Garrison Game board. I already had the 12" Jaques example on the right which I filled with micas and have shown here before. It now has a slightly smaller immaculate condition companion which I've filled with swirls. So much better than having the mibs in jars. Both boards are set up as the opening positions of the game rules. I can't identify the maker of the new one, but it has a handwritten name, presumably the purchaser or recipient of a gift, and the date 1865 on the base. Very cool - makes you think of the history of that year in the USA!! And it has the sticker of the retailer W H Cremer of Bond St London too. To have these two is a bit of a holy grail for us board collectors.

Yes its a replica of scrimshaw ivory board made I believe from resin - I've seen this one before. I think the outside hole pattern may be to receive small pegs for the card game cribbage. There are a few different designs of these faux scrimshaw boards around - I have a couple but don't display them as I think they're rather ugly!! No idea who made them or when but there are quite a few in the UK. I wouldn't give it houseroom if it was real ivory but that's just me!!!

Another attempt to match marbles to a cane fragment. I'll call this Thursday's offering Green Onions after the Booker T and the MGs instrumental. Actually I think the bigger one on the left is a Joseph but we're among friends!!!

I thought it would be fun to match some handmade marbles with similar cane pieces I have. Starting with some Indians.

So here's the bakelite board with 33 5/8" wirepulls. Box says HPGibson London and I'm guessing 1950s. These are easy to find in the UK. I picked this up years ago just to have an example in my board collection. I had no idea who Veiligglas were or that the marbles cane from Holland. The jar in the pic is full of Veiligglas wirepulls that I picked up in job lots when buying German handmade over the years. UK must have been a big market for Veiligglas!

These are a few of the only marbles that I still have from childhood - so they must date from the early 1960s. I presume they are c.7/8" Veiligglas? I also have a bakelite solitaire board by Gibson with the smaller size wirepulls. I'll add a picture to this thread when I get back from a break in Scotland.

I see very few agates in the UK and I've never seen an old solitaire board with them. Great to see such beautiful examples.

Great set - I have spotted patterns of same canes on several boards too including, as you say, later sets with so-called English colours. A dyed red ceramic centre marble was a feature of the sets by JWSpear but Ive not seen them with other makers so your compliment of 32 marbles may be complete for this set.

I like the colours on this 1" onionskin.

Congratulations Melissa that looks like a nice original set. Wish I could help identify the maker but it's not by one of the British or European makers I am familiar with. I don't recognise the M mark or the design of the board, and Ive owned or seen 100s of sets over the years. Makes me wonder if it's a US made General Grant set but that's just a wild guess. Best thing is that there's every chance those marbles have always been with the board!!
