  1. I use the longstanding definitions of 'buffed' and 'polished' that have been in the hobby for some time. "Buffed" indicates that polishing has been done but remnants of the pontils remain. "Polished" indicates that the polishing effort removed the pontils, as in this case. It could have originally been any one of 5-6 types, evidenced by the sole remaining white bands. I have my fact-free guess, but there is no way of knowing.
  2. Heavily polished handmade. Look at the glass flow.
  3. I think its a fine marble with some great hallmark construction cues.
  4. Here are some examples of what oxblood looks like. Note the density and color.
  5. Vintage (and to a large extent, modern) marble making was a relatively crude process. It was by no means a precision process. Glass color was affected by a number of factors, including the batch source and mix, what was in the cullet pile , how the furnace was running, how much the pot had cooked, and even the weather.
  6. Oxblood. I'll wait for the lower light pics for ID.
  7. In those pics it appears to be a game marble.
  8. Doesn't look iridescent to me, but the pics are weird because of too much flash.
  9. Jabo. I think you are chasing the UV thing to no good end.
  10. Following normal English language syntax. Also see: proper use of the apostrophe.
  11. I watched a guy botch a hand grenade once. Time to move fast.
  12. Actually - its "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades".
  13. I don't see anything of interest.
  14. Its not a MK Watermelon.
  15. Put it in a glass of water just covering the marble.
  16. What people call "lashes" are caused by dull shears. Any manufacturer.

    So .....

You camera is unable to focus that close. Back up the camera until the marble comes into focus. Look up how to do a manual center focus select. Also, pics taken on a black background will always come out dark, as the exposure averages on the background unless you choose what part of the image to focus on.
