  1. can you post some pics in natural light next to other marbles ? might help . Mike
  2. well for sure I remember it is like the first girl you walked home and even held hands , so as far as marbles not when I was a kid but my first marbles were even before I collected them so it would in 1983 at the Iola car show last row , it was 3 coffee cans full . Then after I became addicted and that was right after being told what I still had left from the coffee cans, but I bought my first and second marble at the Ottawa marble show when it was held at the glass workers union hall in Ottawa . The first marbles was from 2dollar Bill or Bill Parks , I was so unbelievable excited with every thing. I remember asking what is this called and Bills answer was I do not know but it sure is pretty . I was a lot of years before I even meet Bill again but then he was at every show . Bill has now pass away . So at the same show there was John Hammon Miller in a tall black hat making marbles right in the show , well I was watching and asked how many colors can I have and he said as many as you want , well I just had to have one ,and brought it home with me watch it being made and when done just put in sand ? or something and said come back in a while . well I still have them both and in the cabinets . I am sure I bought others that day but can not remember . Mike also what about a first marble made . any guesses on who helped me it was 1999 . both were signed one he put my name on and the smaller with his , should be some what easy as who signed all of his work in and before 1999 .
  3. well here are two marbles I fell in to one is marked JM so is that J Meyers ?? and then there is the other Red White Blue marble for some reason I am guessing also my JM ?? it is a wild 7 twist on stringers or red white and blue I count the wraps of the blue to come up with the number of seven so any ideas , the smaller one is marked JM and is about 1 1/16 in size and very nice finish being well rounded and smooth , the multi twist being about 1 1/4 is wind in its design but as far as finish o the bumpy side not bad but with the feel of not finished in a mold but very round and might have some heat issues when making ?? so is that why it is not signed as not happy with the out come ?? so let the ideas come . Mike

  17. well I got an email from John Davis and what I have is a marble from the Margaret L Davis collection Mike, I believe that is the first off cane marble I made from a cane that was used in the first Margaret L Davis marble collection. A total of 3 marbles made, One for the collection, one for myself and the first off cane marble which I think you have. I just can't remember it being 2". In any case, thanks for the quick reply. John davisglass http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mmuehlba/library/John%20Davis%20%20first%20off%20cane%20marble I still now have to figure out how I got it ?? does any one have any pictures of the first Margaret L Davis marble collection I did a little searching but all I could find out is that they were sold out . Mike
  18. I think it was made as a paper weight of the damage on the marble/paper weight there is also some on the flat giving me the thought it was made that way because if it was made to cover a big chip I would think the rest of it would have some signs of being polished and there is none the complete marble/ weight is not polished at all except the flat and that has some small issues . Mike

  23. Hi all well after seeing an answer to a question Q: Can you give me an idea what the reserve is? Years ago a friend of mine bought one of these is New Zealand of all places. A: This set of marbles in the past has sold between $5,000-20,000. Even if the reserve is not met, the winning bidders price will be seriously considered. I encourage you to bid what you feel this item is worth. I think we have see these types of auctions with no intentention to see threw ebay I think , as I bid it to $10,000 andf it did not meet the reserve. Mike Retracted: US $10,000.00 reserve not meet .
  24. Well the side that had yellow I put some colored paper there just so the clearies would show in the picture , it was just for the pictures as this was me playing . I put a lot of time in to it . wish I had better knowledge about pics as there were only taken with my Maciva and then in the standard file size , but it is what it was , I had professional picture taken at the local college in Milwaukee , it took about 4 hours to get one picture , they used a 5 by 5 ? camera at the top of a 12 foot ladder , it ended up with 4 flashes of light and then the snap , but then for some reason they asked if I wanted it on a transparency or a negative I asked what was better and they said the transparency so that is what I got but not knowing I could not get a picture printed from that at the local camera stores so now I can not even remember where I put the transparency so lost for ever ?? and nothing to do but talk about it . It was a great find and it was local only about 3 miles from my house , it took about 2 years to acquire and the story that came with it was even better . Mike here we were so proud , October 13 1999 2:13 PM Just think It was only 1995 I started collecting . Mike
