Merlin
Dear all, I encountered this set of marbles in an opp shop (Belgium) and was hoping somebody could help me with the identification. I can upload detailed images if that would help. For starters I tried looking up this sulphide-looking marble but could not find anything that resembles it. Thank you kindly for your help. Ric
Most of these appear to be newer marbles from Asia, although there might be an old German hand-made in the group - on the right of the biggest confetti marble at the bottom of the pic. Chad G.
Hello Merlin, "Welcome to Marble Connection" Lots of Knowledge & knowledgeable people here, if it's about marbles or marble related you're in the right place. Concerning sulphides they made antique ones and still make contemporary's. A sulphide usually consists of a marble with a transparent base, which can be colored, with a 3 dimensional figure (or figures) inside, which can also be painted or colored. Yours look like almost all contemporary machine made. A few Vacor de Mexico (Mega), some Asian maybe Chinese torchwork and I see one German handmade, as Ric says and what I believe are some handmade clays up top with a single cats eye. A pic of a handful of antique Sulphides for you, I hope this helps you in your marble quest, have fun, & again "Welcome"
Merlin
Dear Ric and Chad, fantastic. Thank you for the rapid response on this. Pretty excited about my first handmade German marble! I include a close-up for confirmation. Thank you Chad for showing this nice selection of sulphides. I add a couple more images, as for marble 1526 it reminded me of an "end of day" marble, it seems to be made of a lot of small pieces of glass. Some of the other glass marbles are irregular and with a single small "detachment point" (eg marble 1528) is this an indication for "older" or not necessarily? The last one (1529) reminded me of a "clambroth marble, but the ornamentations run in the wrong direction. Thank you all for sharing your expertise and opinions. Have a great day. I haven't seen a marble like the first one, as far as I recall. The second marble here^^ is the old German I was referring to.
Merlin
Dear Ric, great. Thank you. I researched more online and I ordered some books too. This seems to be a "latticinio" with a white core (one of the more common ones), correct? For the other marble is there anybody in the forum that could point me in the direction of something similar? Would this be an old or new marble (how can one see this?) Thank you kindly for your help and have a "marbellous" day!

For the other marble . . . That is correct - a pretty typical German. And I am going to guess that the other marble is much newer.
