I went to a shop today with a ton of nice marbles. The guy wants $300 for his Guinea marbles which I thought appeared contemporary. Was my gut instinct correct or did I pass up a deal of a lifetime?

You did the right thing.

Marble--On!!

x2, all the guineas look like contemporary torch marbles $5.00 each, if that, you're on it Melissa  :)

Thanks. I took a bunch of pictures of his stuff because I needed time to process what I was looking at. I’m glad I passed and Im even more grateful for the knowledge I’ve learned here. I saw a lot of new vacor being passed off as rare vintage for $500-1000.

There are some Christensen in this bunch, the three blue (Turquoise) base ones, I believe the rest are Alley. I also believe the "Seller" knows exactly what they have.

I honestly couldn’t tell if he was a sheister or just ignorant on some things.

Good eye, Melissa. You could have gotten hosed. I'd be tempted to go back in and do some serious scoffing.

I didn’t feel it was my place. I’ve only been studying marbles for six months. I have a lot to learn yet.

If I was selling a $400.00 marble V.S a $14.00 marble I'd definitely know the difference before I put it up for sale.  "Good work Melissa" caution is always the better side of discretion 99.9% 0f the time, but sometimes you get lucky ??

Yeah. This may be tough to understand until you've owned Guineas or spent enough time studying them, but I could see what's wrong right off because there's no flow in any of them. Then checking for single or two cut lines and I'm done. It used to be easier by just knowing the colors and blends in them until fakes caught on.

By the way, with all those clambroths in a collection like this, you can count that, they are likely made by the same person who did the fake Guineas. I agree with others, the guy's a crook, anything he's selling will be overvalued and graded.

I agree that it is difficult to trust him at this point. Fortunately all I bought from him was a beat up German and some jabo. Pretty sure they are real but who knows.
