goingmarbles
So I'm new to this but was wondering how to identify my marbles and how to price them to see if they are worth anything? I have some that I haven't seen before but like I said I'm a newbie so that could mean nothing. Also this last image is I think a Bennington? You can see where it set while being kelned and it's a very rich blue.
Alan
First one is a modern frit marble. The rest appear to be game marbles. The last one is out-of-focus and I won't guess at it.
goingmarbles
I also have a marble I can't see thru at all it's so dark is this normal? Here is a picture of all the marbles that are my favorite ones and that is only by looks. The last picture I took is of the marble I can't see any lite thru at all. Thanks to anyone the takes the time to reply to these.
Caterpillar
Alan hit the nail on the head with the black and red ones. The yellow one I'm not so sure about; I don't recall having seen a game marble with swirls. There look to be a couple of Vacor Red Pandas in the group photo, and possibly other Vacors as well. Chad G's Vacor ID album is incredibly helpful for identifying Vacors. I'm not qualified to offer an opinion on the others.
goingmarbles
Thanks for letting me know what some of them are. I have many many more. Are any of them worth anything? Also the one that is so blue you can't see thru it where and when was it made and by whom? It's the last picture there.
Caterpillar
We'd need more photos to be 100% sure of the ID. As for value, I believe most Vacors aren't worth a whole lot, especially those that are in current production. Of course, I'm far from expert, so opinions from others would be welcome. Yes, these are called "solids" by collectors. The various companies may have had thier own names for them, regardless they hold little value. 4 hours ago, goingmarbles said: Are any of them worth anything? The white based and green based ones with multiple colored stripes are more than likely "Imperials". Imperial (was/is?) a company in California that purchased marbles from a variety of Asian countries, repackaged them and sold them under their own name. Many companies have done this in the past and we collectors call them “Jobbers”. You have a great variety of marbles there but the value is only to the individual collector—you. Some folks collect for value, some for eye appeal, some for rarity etc and some just like them all. Do your own thing and continue to show us what you have. Nice images! I am firmly in that last group. The marbles I presently own are unlikely to ever be worth even moderate amounts of money, but that's of no concern to me. Why I like them is probably better explained in a different thread. 2
