Lurkers

Recommended Posts

I was once a “Lurker”--one who looks and is afraid to post.
We all welcome you that are hesitant to post here.
“TheMarbleConnection” welcomes all that have any questions about marbles.
If you feel that you are not welcomed—contact any of us here and we will sort it out for sure.
Just show us what you have and be rewarded by some of the very best knowledge available on the "interweb":confused-smileys-327:.
I love you Lurkers—and I hope that some of you contribute to the hobby by posting what you have to offer—we all learn everyday—from folks such as you.

I think sometimes people lurk because they just don't know what to ask or where to begin. Marbles is not an easy study but we all start someplace. I have very little knowledge compared to the old timers. In antiques and coins, I can say I'm advanced in knowledge but the marbles are quite a jungle at first.

People here are very patient and helpful. Thanks to that, I have come a long way but I have a lot to learn. This is a fun hobby and I don't think how much a marble is worth is the point. There are so many cool looking marbles out there. Also what one person thinks is a real beauty, the next person might not see it the same.

Just like when I was a kid, I thought cats eyes were the neatest marbles of all. Turns out most all of them are quite common and have little monetary value. There are some better cats but they are usually far from top shelf. Yet . . . I still like them, just like when I was a kid.

Right now I am learning about Jabo marbles. I am taking the learning seriously I suppose, and it still hasn't quite clicked for me but I am enjoying the education. They are beautiful, and often very affordable so I am having a blast.

Lurkers please post. You'll find a nice welcome and don't worry about what to ask or write. There are no dumb questions.

I applaud this for sure.
No dumb questions regarding marbles—maybe some dumb answers—I have given plenty of them but I have always learned from them.

Just my two cents worth.

I find the forums just focus on giving Id's and very little in the way of discussions.

When I am given a bit of history and knowledge it makes the hobby more interesting.

Personaly I think the collectors have changed there's more interest in contemporary made then the the older mins due to price and availability.

Example I have a strong collection of Germans and American made mibs but I spaz out over finding an interesting Vacor. I can afford to have a huge display of them  fairly cheap.

Maybe it time to change to sub forums. IE beginners spot ..where the conversations flow with info for newbies.  A seasoned forum for top shelf collectors .

A gallery to encourage better photos skills and show off , it's a hobby itself.

A Vacor forum is as well the new classics are here to stay  .

Little things like post of the month or picture of the week could also help.

I will try my best to give some history in each of my posts. I encourage any “older collectors” to do the same.
I get it now, many newer collectors and a few older ones.
This knowledge needs to be passed on--sometimes I feel like I am talking down to the masses and I need to get out of that mindset.
I was raised in this hobby with books--some are right some are wrong but they were the very best that I could find answers with and they were the best at the time for any knowledge achievable.
We may all be wrong at some point or another—this is progress—not a mistake, just our best shot.

Never be afraid to be wrong—this is called learning in my book.

Some simple facts. If you think marbles a cool that means you're NUTZ🤪

We're as obsessed with marbles just like cat's are with the little red laser dot.

That's why you and the rest of us are here. I rekindled my interest in marbles 4 years before the internet. A friend had a marble collection that I had never seen. She showed her marbles to me and told me what they were (ID). BLAMO. "Hey Mom....send me my marbles." I knew she had them and she put them in the mail. I ran down to Barens and Nobels and bought 3 books. 3 days in the books and then the Big Day!!!!! Come on. My first Marble Mail was from my MOM 💌 I had about 200+ marbles. Bang. I laid them all out on a towel and grab my books. I'm thinking I'll know what all of them are tonight. 🤣🤪🤣🤪  I highly recommend finding some books online and buy them. The books provide a lot of historical information. If you could go to a Marble Show it was the only place I was surrounded by Marble Maniacs like me. I made a show, and it was better than Disney Land. Then came the Internet and here we are. I do understand how short threads are after 2 or 3 people have ID the marble and that's the end of the thread. I usually ask questions about a specific thing I need help within the General Marble threads. So, to the Lurkers. Jump on Board and Knuckle Down. If you want more information about a topic or ID just ask us. 🔥

All About Marbles (AAM) is another Board to check out. It has great tutorials and has a lot of information available to you. AAM is another Board I recommend. It's really cool we have Monitors that drop in everyday on both Boards. Think about that one. Once again. Knuckle Down🔥
