NewGuy287 Posted yesterday at 05:21 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 05:21 PM I just picked up a load of marbles from the auction. Three different lots with a variety of older and newer marbles, a bunch of steelies, and some shooters. I think I might have come across a Glitter Bomb or maybe a few of them, although I suspect some are just ornate glass beads. Any advice would be much appreciated, as well as any valuation. I don't plan to sell them, but it would be good to know if they are worth anything. Thanks New Guy.
akroorka Posted yesterday at 08:08 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 08:08 PM These are called “Frit” Marbles my marble collecting friend. The “Frit” was sprinkled on as the marble came onto the rollers while still very hot—and down the rollers to make them round. The only USA manufacturer that tried these was Vitro as far as I know. Vitro did not make many and they may have been an experiment. The Vitro are as rare as hens teeth and without proper and very deep history I would never purchase one. These are made all over planet Earth—pretty common and hard to tell apart from each other. Cool?—yep pretty cool—Collectible? That is up to the collector. Many Folks collect stamped or “imaged” marbles. I respect them as well. Marble—On!!
NewGuy287
Thanks for the response. I picked these up at an auction in the UK. They were stored in cookie tins from the 1920s, so it's good to be able to put some context on the glass.
Chad G.
Vacor de Mexico makes many types of Frit marbles also, yes hard to tell the different manufacturers apart, some very valuable, others worth pennies. https://www.billes-en-tete.com/liste_billes.php?lang=en
