Fire1981
The first one is special but I need some help with it. I believe it’s not a German marble but is actually Asian. I’ve been under the impression that these are made out of porcelain. If so. Any piece of porcelain has to be made in a sterile studio/factory. I was an Art Major and unfortunately most of my ceramic pieces blew up in the kiln. Kinda funny since I like kiln brick “Space Junk” in my Pelts🔥 RAR
Stereodude
It feels like porcelain. What else can I provide.
The Nickel Guy
1 hour ago, Stereodude said: What am I looking at? They come in glazed and not glazed. I am pretty sure in is a China Bullseye Marble but not from China. From Germany, and more ceramic than porcelain. It is quite old. I have a couple similar and was told here that they are usually found smaller than yours. bigger is better and condition and quality of the design makes it better. Of course, I have often been wrong. I like it.
Fire1981
Nothing. There’s no Fish Eyes so it wasn’t fired on the trays like Bennington’s. That’s the mystery I’ve never been able to figure out. There’s no indication that they’ve been burnished as well. But there does seem to be a type of pontil on both ends. So they may have been spun and glazed like a cane and hung in the kiln and are attached by a very small piece of porcelain. I have no clue if I’m right. But I think I just figured it out🔥 RAR
Stereodude
My Grandfather was in the Army and based in Germany. Is this a hard to find marble? Can you estimate the value?
Ric
The first is a decorated porcelain (China) from Germany and the second is a Bennington, also from Germany. Both were likely made well before your Grandfather served in Germany, although neither are hard to find.
Fire1981
Value always depends on how you feel about the marble. I always say. A marble is only worth what it just sold for. The only way to preserve the monetary value of a marble is to put a reserve bid on it. If it hits the reserve bid then you’re good with that. If not then you get to keep in your collection.🔥 RAR
