Yet another transitional

Thanks Chad and Tommy. I think I messed up transitional and hand gathered in my head. Learning every day...

So after digging into some rabbit holes, I am more confused than before. I understand that hand gathered means a marble that was machine rounded but gathered by hand, and has the typical "9 and tail" look to them. A transitional seems to be a marble that is in the transition stage between fully hand made and machine made and tends to have a cut mark such as the pinch pontils on Japanese Transitionals. 

After that long explanation of what I do understand, now for my question, a hand gathered sounds like it is in that same stage of partly machine made partly needing someone to finish the process, so why is it not seen as transitional? Hope this makes sense...
