  1. Thanks. Don't collect a lot of Vitros and this was a very big and very different All-Red. Lean something new.
  2. Why? Because of the black? Not arguing, just trying to learn. Still too pretty to spend time in a plastic bag.
  3. Now, Now... You're not accusing him of... No, of course you're not. Never mind.
  4. Actually, I don't think it's oxblood but this Parrot is just too pretty to be left in a bag. It will join my marbles on display. I know you aren't supposed to see white, but I love how the white outlines the various colors. Side one and 180 degrees around.
  5. Going through my last box, I found a bag of Vitro ... Parrots and Parakeets. The Parakeets are all three color and a couple of the Parrots are three color. Everything I've read says they should be four color. This is actually an outstanding example. Three color, unless you count the dark swirl through the green or the swirls of white in the yellow. What makes it outstanding in my eyes is that the green is absolutely loaded with aventurine. Sparkles like mad under a bright light. There's another three color Parrot in the bunch also with aventurine, but not as vivid.
  6. Holy Cr*p... 42 bids. Is he some kind of wizard putting dumb spells on bidders? Ok. Time to just put them on ignore.
  7. So... Can someone take a look at this auction and tell me if he knows what he's talking about. It's a very pretty marble, but at 5/8 it's *well* past what I'd pay for it. Even if it's an M.F. Christensen, the bids are way high. http://www.ebay.com/itm/301819110159?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  8. I've only returned to bidding on Ebay in the last week or so and Mr. Pawn-Masters has already rung my alarm bells. Now if we can just get sellers to stop titling their auctions "Akro, Peltier, Christensen ...." then I could start finding what I'm really looking for.
  9. So, I decide to signup here after being pointed here from another forum. Can't have too many marble forums ... What do you mean that username is in use? What do you mean that email address is in use? Huh? Turns out I signed up here in 2005 (didn't this used to be MarbleAlan's old forum?) about the time I lost my job and put marbles and all other collecting aside. About a month ago I started digging through the storage area at the back of the garage and found boxes and boxes marked as marbles and started digging them out. Since then I've been try to come back up to speed. Some of my really good stuff had already been out in domed displays, but I was seeing marbles that had been boxed up for over 10 years. I'm retired and on a limited income, so I won't be buying many more Guinea's, but I've started making a few bids for cheaper stuff on Ebay. Kind of fun to be back in the community.
  10. Another remembrance of Les. I never met him face-to-face. He never made it to any of the shows I attended, but he was one of my favorite Ebay sellers and our email exchanges were infomative and enjoyable. What struck me first about Les was his confidence -- his Chutzpa -- to put top end marbles on ebay with a $9.99 starting bid and no reserve. And he did well with that strategy. It was fun to watch Guinea's start at 9.99 and slowly grow to the levels you'd expect. But it was also understood that his marbles were fairly graded, honestly described and worth every penny you would eventually pay. I've tried to bring that honesty to my selling, though not with the same success. But I keep trying... Peace Les.. And Peace to your family. Jerry
  11. Oh my.. Not what I expected or wanted to hear.. Thoughts and prayers to Les's family. Jerry
