I just let him take photos of his 2 favorite marbles. He used his own camera since my wife has mine somewhere, lol. I cropped them so they would fit. The solid core swirl is his favorite and was his great grandpa's actually. I told him either the Kokomo show or Canton Show this year. Will see how schedules do in next few months and finalize on one. He's done for the day, has to eat dinner and a little homework, but did want to say that his nickname for his number one favorite was Jupiter. Howard

Howie just turned 8 and I will let him post if he wants with my supervision of course. It was ok'd by Lou to use my id to do this but if he is typing he will sign Howie, I am Howard. He loves looking at the photos and is at the stage where the bigger the marble and the more colorful it is, the more he likes it. Vacor, Akro, etc if it looks cool to him he likes it. He doesn't care about value though he get impressed if something is really expensive. Letting him post a short blurb to introduce himself. Howard i like big marbles. my favurite marble is one my grandpa had. it is big and is german swirl. one day i will go to marble show and see thousands of awesome marbles. hi everybuddy. my name is howie and i like marbles and video games. my marbles are in jars. bye everybuddy howie

Question About Box Of Akro Slags And Corkscrews
hdale7 replied to hdale7's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Probably will go way too high but plan on checking it out. There are some nice things there and isn't too far from me. Never been there but was hoping to get a real good deal. I'll see what happens. I just wanted resale value so I know what I could bid and still make a several hundred off them if I could get them. Would help lower the sting of the cost of some handmades that a local seller has and I would pay almost nothing for them, lol. -
Question About Box Of Akro Slags And Corkscrews
hdale7 posted a topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Let's say I was able to get a 100ct box of Akro's slags circa 1930?, with Akro box and top but has wear. Haven't seen in person yet but look like slags to me from the not so good photo. What would be a reasonable price to pay? Also a small box of Akros, 20ct with corkscrews. That's all I want to divulge but any advice. If I got them I would buy to resell cause have my eyes on a good collection of handmades -
Are There Any Marble Shows In Michigan?
hdale7 replied to hdale7's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
You are right, I was thinking Sistersville was in Ohio. Well, I'll keep a look out on the dates for Kokomo in 2011 in Indiana or the summer show that the Buckeye Club does in Ohio and depending on scheduling and plans, we'll hit one of those. Don't really want to travel in the winter that far in Jan. Thanks everyone again for the assistance. -
Are There Any Marble Shows In Michigan?
hdale7 replied to hdale7's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Thanks for all the replies. I guess Ohio and Indiana shows will be our options for attending in the future. I know we just missed the Sisterville show in Ohio. If anyone has the dates in 2011 for Indiana and Ohio Shows feel free to PM/email me with it but they might not be set in stone yet till it gets closer, I don't know. Thanks a bunch and hopefully will run into some of you all when we do get to a show. Howard -
Picked Up A Jar Of Mibs, How'd I Do?
hdale7 replied to glangley's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Cool, I see the Polar Bear too. Very nice pickup. -
Hopefully those involved will pursue it. They can get the contact info from ebay if they want too. Needs to be punished for this because will probably just set up more accounts using friend's and family member accounts or another id and keep doing it. See the person has another account and I don't know how many more this person may have. Good to see people here at Marble Connection looking out for others. I hope that people can recoup their losses and this loser gets punished. Ebay was warned and warned while listings were active according to this thread. I reported several auctions myself on the flag this listing or whatever it is called on the listings, sure dozens of others did too. Ebay should have pulled the darn listings pending an investigation. Heck even flag his account and held the Paypal funds for a certain amount of time since they have done that to suspicious activities before on sellers. Just sickening the whole situation.

That guy definely has screwed over some people but out of those negs, 3 of them are double I believe so would be 7 unique user negs. The 10 neg total would count overall but I think only 7 can be used to affect his rating. This is what I think Ebay does but could be wrong. Still even with the seven different unique ones should be around 93 percent. 1 neg per 100 fb should lower them one full percentage point and he has just a hair over a 1000 total fb. I'm confused on this too. Suprised he isn't naruued, booted by Ebay. Just a sad situation for the buyers and this is high dollar amount stuff, I believe in most states anything over 100 dollars is a felony count.

I've looked somewhat online and have seen clubs for Indiana, etc and do know that they have a few shows in Ohio, etc. Is there a site that lists all the marble shows by dates and state? I'd like to take my son to one within the next year and am weighing our options for someplace that is only a few hour drive from where we live. We live in the lower central part of Michigan and for comparison purposes can hit Toledo, Ohio in 2 hours and 45 minutes by going southeast and Fort Wayne Indiana in 2hrs 30 min driving straight south. Thanks for any info on this matter.

Editing because I just listed them in lots on ebay. I am looking on feedback though since I've never sold marbles online and please send me a PM if my descriptions or ids are way off on something. Nervous about selling mibs, though common type ones, but we need to sell extras to buy more at auctions and estate sales cause the wife just don't understand and said sell some if you want to buy more, lol. Thank you for the replies. Saved me some hassle and foolishness. Darn vacors, I don't have a Superman but that is the main one I was interested in purchasing but thought it looked a little different than the Pelt photos. I better get some Vacors so I have more of a reference point when looking at mibs. I appreciate the tips and will pass on most of them because of all of your help.

Last one: these I'm unsure about. Think most have no real value but if I'm wrong and any are over 3 dollars please let me know. These ones I don't really like but will pick up something if it has value. Ugly 3/8ths unsure on age Ugly 5/8ths unsure on age Pretty 3/8ths cat but like most cats has little value. 5/8ths This anything or just a newer one like vacor 5/8ths am almost positive this is newer

I want this figurine but don't know the value or what to try to get it for. Supposed to be only 500 of them made in 1969 by Acorn.
-
3/8ths like it 3/8ths like it 5/8ths love it 5/8ths, this one has piqued my interest a lot, just want to make sure it's not a replica type of mib by newer maker assortment of vitros primarily but the 2 on bottom far right and upper far right interest me, unsure the maker, all are 7/8ths and 1 inch Any ideas on these and value. Don't have in hand or seen in person but trying to get them online. Some I want and some if I can get real cheap may try to resell. Can't attach them all so later post are ones am unsure about if they are just newer or have no value.

A Link To How To Grade Marbles In Numeric Form Please?
hdale7 replied to hdale7's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Thank you all for the replies. I am now more informed and thanks to the couple of informative PM's as well. If I was selling a marble/s I would rather go a hair on the lower grading side with descriptive info and if better than expected, the person is happier. Just wanted to say thanks for all the help we have gotten in the last couple years since we started collecting. -
Very nice. I don't know all the technical terms for your marble. I would have called it onionskin core marble, lol. But the part of where they say that the core is shrunken onionskin makes a lot of sense. What size is it if you don't mind me asking? Again, nice marble.

1st pic just some of the cats around 5/8ths that was in this lot. 2nd Pic are shooter size cats in the lot except that smaller white one which somehow got in the photo. I have so many cats. I must have dozens of these all ready. About half of my mibs that I own are cats. Probably a few hundred shooter sizes cats as well.
-
Here are some photos of some of the cats, I think they are purple in color. I plan on only keeping 3 of them, I have 23 actually. I have my eye on some handmades locally and may go through my collection of about 4000 machinemades and anything I have more than doubles of will be for sale and will preview them here, thinking about selling a few of my black cats, st. mary's along with other marbles and/or put some on the bay. Probably mainly commons but sometimes you got to sell something you have a lot of to get the money to buy things you desire, lol.

Don't know if in good taste to say but paid 21 dollars for them all so even if real common should be a great deal. Soaking them all right now. We just did basic seperation: Howie put all the broken ones and clearies in a container. Seperated the cats into one category, others: patches, swirls etc in another, shooter size in another pile and each pile is soaking right now. Also found about 100 various marbles that may be newer and put them in a pile, they just look different to me and in such nice shape can't imagine they are that old. I now have about 20 violet cats, never had any before. A couple really nice looking slags. I know these are probably pretty common marbles but I hope there are a few gems in there.

Went to a few garage sales while heading home and found these jars of marbles. 5 peanut bar jars full and 2 glass jars. Howie and I will have a lot of separating to do. At least from what I could see, they were all vintage machine mades and I didn't doubt the older couple who said they must be 50 or 60 years old at least. I saw several that looked to be newer from just viewing the jars but believe the final count will be between 50-100 out of a thousand or so, so not too bad. I had Howie with me and they were shocked that a young boy liked marbles. Bought a splitting maul, always can use an extra when splitting wood, lol and a few old baseball bats. Real good day. Enclosing two pics for now, front view of the jars and back view. Will be posting more pics after we've had the chance to browse through them that I think are beautiful or we need help with iding.

The Meijer Gardens is a nice place to visit. Glad you enjoyed it. Did you ever make it to the Gilmore car museum? We had some nasty weather in Michigan, Friday evening. Glad you had a good time.

I saw you mention Venetian in your original post, victorian makes sense, I never saw the Ebay listing. My son and I try to collect handmades primarily but due to their cost haven't been able to get as many as we would like. Germans started making hand mades in larger quantity around 1850 due to invention of marble scissors and up to about 1915 is when they stopped their dominance in the marble market, due to ww1. Most of the eariest german hand produced mibs had larger protruding pontils on them so for these marbles made for games were a little later on so I would assume were produced between 1880-1915 so Victorian era would be an accurate thing since Queen Victoria died around the turn of the century. I believe I read somewhere that the Germans started the first machine mades around 1890-1900 as well. I just didn't know what the Venetian meant. I really love them and hope you post them in groups when you get them, please.
